I have carried progressive auto for 18 years. Claims ranging from windshield chips/replacement to full total loss. They have been absolutely fabulous. When I totaled the Outlander 9 years ago, we were expecting a check for $6-$7k. They paid us over $9k, with no rate increase due to Emerald status. I shop around every couple of years to make sure they are still competitive, and they have consistently been cheaper than others (even with 2 teenage drivers). When my daughter moved out, she stayed with Progressive and was grandfathered in with the same Emerald status.

"Their" homeowner's insurance (Homesite at the time) wound up substantially more than competitors after a rate increase after the first year (have never filed a homeowner's claim).

Thanks. Home insurance is not on the menu. The house was built in 86 (pre-Andrew, is frame and in a semi-rural area no hydrants.
$1,000/month. after the new roof.

Rural and wilderness homeowners is a concern I am dealing with for the home I am building in Montana. I plan on roof/eave mounted sprinklers and fireproof exterior materials to hopefully bring that price down. We'll see what happens.

I have zero knowledge about Progressive Insurance.

I will say that last summer when my wife's car got hit by a woman with expired insurance AND expired driver's license, State Farm paid for everything. I believe they went after the woman later. The total car repair was $35,000 plus a trip to the doctor for my wife

But my point is, the auto repair shop said the best insurance companies are the ones that don't advertise. He mentioned Chubb and a couple others I don't remember.

And to the OP, good luck with dealing with the insurance.

I only use Progressive for my motorcycle insurance. I have had only one claim in the last 30 years or so that I have been with them, and in that claim they paid me more for a totaled motorcycle than I had thought I would get. For car and home owner insurance I have used USAA for over 50 years. High premiums but outstanding service.

One example of how USAA operates that keeps me loyal to them: A few years back the main water line from the city water supply to my home developed a leak, which was triggering my sump pump to operate almost non stop. That main water line is about 120 feet from where the city line is to where it goes into my foundation and hits the water meter. USAA said that if the line break was due to normal wear and tear and not some unusual event it was not a covered loss, but that the insurance would cover the cost of discovering the location of the leak. The plumbing contractor said that the cost to tear up my front yard and some sidewalks to find where the leak was would be about $5,0000, so USAA sent me a check for that amount. It turns out that putting in a new line, which did not involved tearing up my entire front yard nor did it involve damaging any sidewalks was also $5,000. So in effect USAA paid for the whole issue by making a customer friendly decision which cost them money.

They are much more trouble getting claims filed and paid. There's a reason they advertise so much.
I have never had a single issue or delay in getting claims paid, granted there have only been two major ones in 18 years, but both of those and all of the glass claims have been completely painless.

We had been Pekin insurance for well over 40 years and was totally happy when all of a sudden we were informed they were leaving our state so I had to go shopping. That was an eye opening experience. In all of those years we had never filed a claim on our home owner's policy and our claims on our auto insurance I'm sure were below average but unfortunately our last claim occurred just a year and a half prior and no other vehicle was involved and we were at fault. I hate having to deal with insurance companies but ya gotta have it.

Never have carried Progressive. But, after their drunk driving ex-cop policy holder ran into my house, I had to deal with their "adjuster". Worst insurance company I've ever dealt with in my life by far.

I know 2 men who own autobody repair shops.
They say Progressive is no better or worse than any of the other insurers; at least from their side of it.

I had progressive for several years. Had a massive claim---son driving one of my cars hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk. They paid out over $300,000. I told son he needed to find his own insurance. They set him up with his own policy that was cheaper than any he could find. My rate actually went down. No complaints until homeowners took a big increase. I tried my best to stay with them, but found another that saved me $800 a year for combined auto and homeowner. $800 is $800 so had to make the change.

Guess maybe it has to do with the agency or adjuster on particular claims, but when I worked in a motorcycle shop I watched a Progressive adjuster or an independent on behalf of Progressive totally rape a customer on what was once a real nice late model Harley.
Too long a conversation to go into but I ask him several things like don't you want us to fix this or check that? It wasn't even my motorcycle but I really wanted to let him know what I thought of him in very explicit terms.
