Any scope mounting recommendations for a Ruger American rimfire .22LR?

I just came into a nice used Ruger American bolt action in .22LR, and was kind of surprised to see that the receiver is grooved for the old-style .22/airgun rings. Obviously, there are picatinny mounts available as well, which would probably block the sights, but that's not a big deal (for me personally). I've got picatinny & Weaver-type rings available, but I have not used the older .22-style rings since I had my first 10/22 about 50 years ago. And I've read online that some of the .22 rings out there won't fit the Ruger receiver (at least without modification).

If you mounted a scope on your rifle, what worked (or didn't work) well for you? I'm looking at using an older Japanese Weaver T6 target scope with 1" tube & adjustable objective. Thanks in advance!

If your Weaver is old enough to be really long standard rings can leave a lot unsupported. This works OK but depending on how you use the rifle it could end badly.

Airgun mounts are a very secure way to spread the support out wider.

Slapped a Vortex Crossfire 2 on my R/A 22 magnum. Used the groove in receiver but I believe a Weaver #3 base will work for mounting. Good scope for the money. Ran me $129. Mine 1 inch rings fit perfectly.

Literally ANY of the mid to better grade of grooved receiver rings will be fine. You don't have to spend $50 to make this work. More important is where and how you locate the scope to prevent interference with rear sight if using a full size scope. My RAR has a 2-7x32 Vortex Rimfire mounted as low as possible w/o having interference between bolt handle and scope bell. Has worked fine for ?? years of field use.

Might add I enjoy the Ruger's 60 degree bolt. Really missed the short 18 inch barrel like my 10/22 had. Makes for a great woods varmint gun.

I had looked at the steel Burris 'Deluxe' & Weaver 'Grand Slam' rings at the Midway web site; both were under $40 a set. Mostly good reviews, but it sounds like the Weaver rings may not fit (someone commented "good quality rings, but they do not fit Ruger American rim fire rifles"), and I wasn't sure about the Burris rings (at least one comment about having to relieve the bottom of each ring to fit on a round-top receiver). Any chance you might remember what brand your rings are?
