I'm thinking of using a Ruger rings to Weaver low mount adapter like the two-piece one offered by Burris and wanted to know if it was low enough to still use the original sights? I like the idea of the the one-piece mount like that by B-Square or Sun Optics, but they probably get in the way of the sights.

I'm picking up a 77/357 and would like to have a Picatinny-compatible base so that I could swap scopes with other rifles, assuming the slot spacing on the two-piece bases are true to the one piece base. The 77/357 begs for a straight 4X, or 2-7X, but I'd like to use the steel sights every now and then.

Thanks in advance,
MG-70

MG-70, I noticed there were no replies to your post for a few days. I do not think many people use the adapters on their rugers. I think it is mostly because the adapters distract from the good looks of the Ruger carbines. I, myself like to use irons sights on my 77/357, but a receiver sight works better for my old eyes. My 77/357 (and 77/22) are drilled and tapped for XS receiver ghost ring sights, which work great. And ofcourse, the Ruger factory Ruger rings, bring a scope back to zero quite well, when the scope is reinstalled. As far as being able to swap scopes around with other rifles, without taking it out ou the rings, I don't have a solution to offer for that. When swapping scopes between rifles, you have to re-zero anyway. RJ

RJ556,
Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised no one is using these, as Ruger sells a lot of guns and being able to easily swap scopes, say an Ultradot Matchdot one day and a 3-9X the next, is practical. With Picatinny rails and decent rings, they should be fairly zeroed, if not dead on, assuming you note which slot of the base it was set on.

Anyhow, I guess experimenting different combos can be fun, if not expensive.

Have a great weekend!

I bought a set of the Burris adapters and tried them, but they do get in the way of the sights... I bought them for better spacing of the rings, but they didn't really help there either unless you turned the front base so that it hung over the ejection port.

Did the bases get in the way of ejection once turned? If so, what model and caliber are you shooting? I guess it depends on the caliber, but apparently one-piece bases are more common, so it must work with some calibers, though it would make it difficult to top load.

Thanks for the reply!

MG-70 I have a set of the two piece Ruger to weaver adapters I would be happy to loan you if you want to see if the setup would work for you before you buy a set.
Just pm me if that will work for you and we'll work it out.

JimHnSTL,
A BIG Thanks for the offer!!! I don't have any short scopes at the moment to try out the set-up, but once I figure it out, I may drop you a note to see if you still have the adapters. I'm thinking a fixed 4X or one of those 1-3X Weavers.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!
