The new factory ones? I feel the lipsey's one I paid way to much for was now a really bad investment since the market will now be flooded with them.

One allways pays a few dollars more to be the new kid on the block with the latest neato toy.
Investment . . . . ahhhh you probably paid ~ $500.
You own it, ENJOY it.

. . . . . . . . or put it in the back of your safe,
then your grandchild can sell it! and since you gave it to him by means of your passing on, he will be rich.

Bottom Line, few, few dollars, who's counting really?

I don't think there is a difference but they still seem to bring about 500.00 regardless and I have yet to see a flood of them although I suppose that could change. Shoot it and enjoy it and my guess is that you will stop worrying about its cash value.

I bought one to shoot and one to collect. I love the one to shoot I just think it is crappy when they say it was a limited run.

Who, Where and When was it said "Limited Run"

Fact is when Ruger has made limited runs they usually flop.

ie. 50th Blackhawk Flattop .357 & .44. Very nice guns, but now there down to $350 new. In time the supply will run out and then just like the 1976 Liberty Guns they will probably pull a small premium.

Acusport SS Bisley's, limited run? NO. They rode the wave while it was good.

.44/.41 were kinda dogs when you could get one, Now try and find one. + ~$200-400 premium.

If your worried about the safe queen, dump it right now and buy wheat.

Which .44 Spec. are you referring to? Forgive me, but I'm new to Rugers.

The 44sp Blackhawk, NVB-444 and NVB-445, now shown as a regular offering by Ruger although there hasn't been many seen on the market yet, and the last year special offering through the Lipsey's distributorship of basically the same gun.

There's nothing "crappy" about it on Ruger's part. It "was" a limited run of only 2000 guns built just for Lipsey's. Now it is a standard catalog model. That's the trouble with speculating, sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

And what, you're complaining about spending $50 more to get a gun a year earlier than others are going to be able to get one?

I paid $479 + ship for mine. That's a fair price for a new Ruger. Davidsons currently has a sale on the new ones, and they're $425 through my dealer (probably plus shipping). Not a huge difference.

Now if you thought you were buying a collector's item, there was only ever going to be 2000 of these guns made, etc, well... That's why they call it "speculating", and it's not Ruger's fault they decided to produce a gun people wanted.

What I want is a Lipsey special run of 32 caliber Bearcats.

I will gladly pay $50 extra to get mine a year earlier than you.

Gentleman I have opened a can of worms. Yes I speculated. I have a new in the box ruger buckeye in 32/20 32 mag that I also speculated on 10 years ago bought it for $300 and look how that turned out. I am not complaining just asking if mine was different then the new ones.

Don't fret, I did and I suspect many of us did the same thing. I wanted one since I first read about the production deal in which lipseys first approached Ruger, close to 2 years ago.
I can see where you and others are disappointed; this was supposed to have been and was advertised to be a "Limited Run" A total of 2000 flat tops, where to be produced, A 1000 in the 4 5/8 "barrel and a 1000 in the 5 ½" barrel, end of story, or so we thought. Ruger has decided to catalog it for 2010 and there is simply nothing anyone can do about it. But still a limited run is supposed to be limited, and to issue the identical model as lipseys's first contracted for is just not right. Change the grips, the loading gate the sites the ejector rod steel/alumina, the case etc. point is change something Is the cataloged 44 special going to be listed under the same #520- xxxxxx Prefix serial numbers who knows, if not then "boom" instant collector appeal. I suggest you try to take it up with Lipseys and see what they say, can't hurt; I know I am going to call them just to hear what they say.
Now, as a Collector condition and value are always important and to "gamble" on the collectability aspect on any particular gun is iffy at best. You know the old story, sometimes you bite the bear, and sometimes he bites you.
Personally did I pay too much, sure I did, but I also wanted one of the last ones ever produced (or so I thought) More importantly I wanted a Ruger flattop specifically designed for the 44 special. Worst case scenario it sits in the safe best case scenario I shoot it every chance I get. Either way it's a win win, enjoy it.

That how it was marketed, just a few links.

Oneshot, No can of worms, and don't feel bad. Good discussion going on.

Chris, I can appreciate your homework too, However we need to read and understand what was said.

"Limited Run" Reffered to a "Quanity" of 2000 guns. (50/50 each barrel length) As I read this it speaks to the amount of guns that Lipsey's commited to Ruger to have built. (minimum quanity I am guessing)
When Lipsey's commited to the limited run they received a "Exclusive" in reference to distributorship. In other words the only place a FFL Dealer could get one was thru Lipsey's.

When the word got out that Ruger would even consider making these guns it was ground shaking. I'm sure the boys in charge at Ruger were wondering if it would really work. Now look what is happening we all want the "OLD" look.

I see this as a Manfacture / Dristributor partnership / experiment, and we read into it as a it was going to be a real collector's item. Oh well, nice guns, shoot em!!

By the way Oneshot what's the going price on the Buckeye? Sad thing is you have to part with it to see the gain. :D and that's no fun.

Good Discussion here guys, go ahead let's hear what you think. G2

I looked for a long time to find one - finally did this October and paid $499 for it. Now it is a cataloged model.
Am a mad?
Heck no! This means lots and lots of people will have the opportunity to get their hands on one of the nicest handguns Ruger has ever made! I'm not selfish - let's all have a good time :D

While I'm sure that Ruger produces it's share of 'collectables', my .44 Spl is a shooter. I'm sorry you feel that you over spent, join the club, I did when I got mine and I knew I did, but I was willing to pay to play and I'm glad I did. Great gun and it will be better (for me) when my stainless version gets here.

I for one am happy. I had my dealer put an order in with Lipsey for one last January, Lipsey never sent him one and therefore I never got one.

I'm not sure Lipsey's ever represented the .44 Special Flattop as anything like a guaranteed closed issue or a collector's gun.
They stated they'd contracted with Ruger for a certain number of guns. Ruger was not willing to assume the risk of introducing the gun on their own, Lipsey's was.
Once Ruger saw how well they were selling & decided there was sufficient consumer interest to make it a catalogued item after the Lipsey's run was finished, that's what happened.

When I talked to Lipsey's I was told there was a very strong possibility Ruger would continue the guns beyond the Lipsey's contract.

Anybody who bought the Lipsey's guns as speculations misunderstood the nature of the deal & mis-read the market.
People have been wanting this gun for decades, even though Ruger didn't believe there was a market the result is hardly surprising.

The gun even attached itself to me, and I had very little interest in the caliber previously. :)

A distributor's limited run contract is no guarrantee that subsequent guns won't be marketed if demand materializes.

Where exactly was this advertised as a limited edition collector gun??? So you think that Ruger should change the configuration on a proven seller, that we have been waiting and wanting for for 55yrs, just to make you speculators a little money??? Are you serious??????????
