Another tough day planned

Yesterday, I stayed home to catch up on some rather serious issues here (plus I'd run completely out of time/overtime allowance) and Son/Grandson spent most of the day getting another pasture ready. By 3PM, I was mostly spent and still had a bunch of stuff to attend to. Today, I'm scheduled to meet one of my employees to do some field work 125 miles from my back door so first item of the day is a 2.5 hour drive. Then 1.5 hours in the field followed by another hour on the road. More field work and a 3 hour drive home. Sounds like a full day not counting chores here before & after.
Not complaining since I volunteered but I'll sure be ready for a little cooler weather and slower pace after 9/1 when this project ends. 1235 miles and 50 hours last week and I'll bet I log 30 hours by midnight 8/31 this week. Those young folks sitting in an office counting beans don't quite understand that short time frames and high workloads are tough on old folks especially in hot weather. My group ranges from 55 to 75 years old and it's impossible to find younger people who will accept such a variable work/pay position.

Had a bout with a heat injury forty odd years ago. Apparently, it makes you susceptible in the future. I haven’t taken a chance.

Now I love the desert. But, I make darned sure I’m well hydrated and plan my visits during cooler periods.

I suspect that had I had heat injury at my current age things could have been quite concerning.

Yeah, I've had some 'heat issues' in the past. Once I completely passed out but luckily was able to get tractor in PARK and fall off the bottom step before going completely down. So hot I puked several times. Stopped sweating a few times. It got much worse after I had Lyme disease. Now have 'hot flashes' that happen w/o warning.
Today I took a new employee along for some training time. Even with all my problems, I see how much better off I am than some others. I had to stop numerous times to let him catch up and when we got back to the vehicles, he said "I wish I was in as good shape as you and could move around as well as you do". Heck, he's several years younger than me and hasn't lived the rough life I have.
I clocked out with 8 hours, 245 miles, and 3 field visits an hour ago and ready to get started on evening chores in a bit.

I have been cleaning up downed and damaged trees for the past two weeks following a ridiculous wind storm. My tools: a Stihl chainsaw, small John Deere tractor, chains, tow straps and winches.

I'm 57 and not getting any younger. Still in great shape but I only lasted till 3:30 today. Way too hot and humid.
