Last week the Seabee Son and I went to Sportsman's Warehouse. It's 45 min away and I was a bit pressed for time. Ended up buying a Black Powder Revolver. But walking by the used gun case I saw a Ruger Single Six. I didn't really have time to take a close look. The tag was $279……It weighed on my mind all week. I went back today and it was still there. It has slight wear and a couple nicks….but really not much sign of being fired much. Extremely clean. It did not have the original box. The serial number came up as shipped in 2006. There was no 22lr cylinder. They didn't haggle either. Considering its condition I thought the price was fair and it came home with me. Walking by a used gun case or rack to me is like walking by dogs in pens at the shelter…I want to bring them all home. Yes, the Single Six sat on the passenger seat on the way home….just like a new pup.

A great .22 mag at a price not too far off a Wrangler. I'd call that a "WIN!"
Agreed! I'm wondering if folks thought it was a used wrangler at a quick glance and kept walking.....
Since at one time it had a 22lr cylinder, Ruger would probably fit up a new one for you. They just won't make convertibles out of guns that never were...
Being considered.
Good score, they have 2 at the LGS priced around 450 with only the win mag cylinder. I'd have snapped that baby right up!
Yeah I can't believe it was priced that low in that condition.
Good score! If it were me the second trip would not have been necessary.
Agreed...but I was pressed for time last weekend.

Yes very good deal. I had not considered the Ruger angle to get the 22lr cylinder replaced.
I would second that motion.

Another option for the spare cylinder is to find one for sale here or in other places like sleezebay etc. All you really need is the OAL,, and the info of it being a NM cylinder. Buy one with the OAL the same as the Mag cylinder,, OR it can be a few thousands longer & you can easily hone the front of the boss down to fit.

I will give Ruger a call this week. I'm also wondering if it was mistaken for a Super Wrangler when priced? The kids behind the counter had no clue it came with another cylinder, or even how to remove the cylinder . If it isn't plastic they don't have much interest. I showed them how to look the serial number up on the Ruger website to prove it came with both 22WMR and 22LR cylinders. The one kid did give due diligence in researching when it was traded in and looked in the back room for another cylinder. The previous owner brought it in with just a trigger lock and nothing else.

Even though I thought it was a good price as tagged I tried to haggle with the Store Manager. He made a call, to someone and they wouldn't budge. Said he'd have more room to barter if it were new. I get it, more markup margin to play with on new product. I'm wondering what they gave the previous owner on trade  Seems it would have been wiser to sell privately. Oh well......it's in a very loving nest with lots of other Ruger's now.

Maybe on consignment? I buy a lot of guns at the box stores because that is about the only good source for firearms around my area. They tend to be towards the higher end of priceing of course . Sometimes I wonder where they get their used arms to sell. Apparently they have buyers who frequent shows ,actions etc to find the pricey stuff. They almost always have some older Colts and S&W handguns with a mix of Browning, Winchester shotguns and rifles. I don't think they really always know what they have however.

Well I think you did great that 22mag is definitely on my want list congrats it would be a great compliment to my 22mag Henry

I asked Ruger about fitting a cylinder for my OM Single Six. They WILL but they also do "The Swap" to a striker fire... no option to say no.
I don't recall if they send back the replaced parts.

I sometimes wonder how many OM has Ruger converted? I haven't actually seen one in the wild, out side of pictures. I have however seen plenty of unconverted OMs.

Ruger will likely be willing to build you a cylinder. But it may be cheaper to look for a used one.

No need to worry about any action work, as it's already got the transfer bar design.

And Ruger does do OM action upgrades & is SUPPOSED to return the original parts. While I love Ruger,, and appreciate a lot of what they do,, I'd never send in an OM for any work w/o removing the OM parts they remove.

Ruger did a replacement cylinder for me approx. 50 years ago for a single six I bought from a friend. Only had the .22LR cylinder when I bought it, they fit a .22 Mag cylinder for it. Yes, they did send me all the original parts after they put in the transfer bar without telling me. Worked perfectly, I used it often, then included the original parts when I sold it. Hopefully they still do this.

Your picture reminds me of the times I just made a good purchase or trade at a gun show and before I left the parking lot I would get it out and admire it for a while. Nothing much better than getting a good deal on a new to you gun.
