When I was much younger I used to look forward to New Year's Eve as a time for celebrating, and yes, probably drinking more alcohol that I should have done. As I got older I did less and less of this, and in fact, for the last many years my wife and I just treat it like any other night and are probably sleeping before the New Year even arrives. This year I might be going to a friend's home for his New Year's Eve party, but just for a courtesy call and then an early return to my home. This is one of those "holidays" that never came up to my expectations, and often made me think why I even bothered going out in the first place.

This new year will be a milestone of sorts for me, since halfway through the year I reach the three quarters of a century mark. Sobering thought, and not much of a reason to celebrate. I'm not yet on death's doorstep, but sometimes I think I can see it from here. Each new year, and each birthday reminds me all too much of my own mortality. My one resolution for the new year is to not let myself even glance at the obituaries in the newspaper each day. It gets a bit disheartening to see all the names and photos with their year of birth well after the one in which I was born.

Anyway, have a Happy and Healthy New Year! Think young, and keep shooting!

HAPPY NATIONAL HANGOVER DAY to any that choose to celebrate
it. I decided to cease that celebration while still in my 30s. Personal
decision, you do what you like.

While I would like to get to bed early, I have a bunch of neighbors that
insist on doing the fireworks thing (even while it IS illegal for what they
set off), so it is useless to try for sleep before 01:00 in the morning.
SIGH!

Yet another reason to get out of here.

Subject change: I'm DEVASTATED this morning. I just got word that my
daughter is thinking about getting a .380 for CC . . . because the 4" 1911
she regularly carries does not conceal well in tight fitting garments.
DEVASTATED I tell you! 8)

P.S. It is 12 degrees and snowing. I hope that continues, at least until
tomorrow morning. :D

Though I was a REAL drinker many years ago I never did anything on New Year Eve. I always considered that day and St Patrick's day as 'amateur hour'. That's when all the non-drinkers go out and get smashed. I knew better.

Gramps, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
Congrats, and have a great time.

We're staying home, and will see the new year in with nachos and champagne.

May all of my Rugerforum friends have a 2018 filled with peace, love and wellness!

Jeff

I never get on the road on New Years eve.

People often start boozing it up early while driving and are completely howling drunk by midnite.

I not a teetotaler, but drink and drive...never.

Hi...
New Year's Eve celebrations usually pass without much notice from me.
Wife and I will be at home...one or the other of us may well be asleep by midnight.
It just isn't that big a deal to either one of us anymore and hasn't been for some time.

Nothing special planned here. I quit drinking on a whim just over 2 years ago, so going and watching others get hammered isn't overly appealing. Plus it's colder than a witches teat in a brass bra here in Kansas City, so going out isn't sounding like fun. Might just watch some DVD's and rustle up something to eat and stay warm.

Happy New Year to you all and I hope it's a fun and safe one!

And then there's all those sheeple huddling together in their designated kill zones (excuse me - "Holding Pens").

Sounds like me! I was a professional drunk for years. But I celebrated on the nights when the amateurs weren't out! (Sundays, Tuesdays, etc...) I partied on only two New Year's Eves in 66 years.

Hmmm - I'll reach my 3/4 century this July. Looking forward to it. As for tonight, New Years Eve, Annie and I will be at home, and play music and sing together until shortly after midnight.

Our New Year:

April 2018 - week long trip to California - Annie's mom's 90th.

May 2018 - four day camping trip in western PA - turkey hunting

July 2018 (maybe) - Music school in Elkins, WV

September 2018 - week long trip to the western shore of Ireland.

Happy New Year to all my RF pards.

Well, it's 11:38 pm and we're in bed. Celebrated with a non-alcoholic cranberry juice cocktail and called it a night. All the kids and grandkids and dogs been here all weekend and we're tired! Both off tomorrow so we can relax and put away the Christmas decorations. I may slip off for a midday deer hunt later - 12° here tonight so I don't figure the deer will move early anyway. Happy New Year to all my Ruger forum friends!

Our New Years Eve tradition is for my wife and daughter to make me a batch of peanut butter cookies. Then I get to indulge tomorrow for my birthday. Yes, it's a reminder of my age, but peanut butter makes it easier to face. (Especially when it's made with what my wife calls her secret ingredient...love.)

The only alcohol in our house is wine for communion. Been that way for almost 20 years. The only reason to stay up till after midnight is the dogs hate fireworks.

Happy New Year to all,
Ted

For the first time in seven years, I have a date tonight for New Year's Eve. Woo Hoo! No alcohol involved, cause I want to remember it! :p

Congrats Gramps, I hope it went well.

Me and my wife were supposed to go to a friends party only a mile away, but after watching the Blackhawks on the couch with blankets we just couldn't rally up to get in the car. It's a -20° wind chill here.
