After shooting less than 100rds my front sight on my SR1911 broke off. Contacted Ruger twice by email and no responses. Called but can't get through. Terrible customer service will never get another ruger. The front sight shouldn't break after only 100rds on any firearm period!

That was common on early runs of SR1911's, so Ruger should be quite familiar with the problem...Keep trying until you can get them on the phone. I'm certain that they'll fix it for you.

When I needed a replacement for my gp100 I filled out the online questionnaire on their CS page and got pretty quick response, never needed to call them.

You Must Have A Great Life. Nothing To Complain About In 14 Years... Just Kidding. Ruger Has The BEST C S There Is. Give Them A Chance.

Don't give up on Ruger CS...your experience while regrettable is Not the norm...give them another try on Monday

I've had a number of Rugers. I found it has the best CS in the business. Unfortunately I've had to use Ruger CS toooo many times! I have always used the phone and got great service. On my SR1911 I changed my sight to a Dawson Precision FO because I like FO front sights. I have a number of Glocks since 1991. I don't know whether Glock provides CS or not :)

Thank you for suggesting a Fiber Optic front
sight. While reading all the hazing I was just
thinking what aftermarket front sights are
out there.

I went to the Dawson Precision site to look.
How did you go about measuring for the
correct Fiber Optic Front Sight? I see the
list to pick from.

Thank you

First you need to determine what round you plan on setting your sights to and the distance. I chose Federal 9mm HST 124gr standard pressure. This is a good carry SD. I wanted the distance to be 15 yards. YMMV. Second there is a calculation tool on the Dawson site. They are very helpful and can walk you through it. If you know where the round is hitting at the distance you want they may calculate it for you. If you guess wrong the first time they will send you a corrected one free-see the Dawson guarantee. Additionally broke down a got a combat fully adjustable rear sight. I got it from the company that makes factory sights for Ruger and other firearm manufacturers. But unless you are OC like me I suggest you see if you can work with the factory rear sight. My SR1911 LWC isn't for carry but range fun. Much easier to carry one of my Glocks-26,43,42. I have a G19 but it is 5"high. The Ruger is 5,5" high I think.

Thank you so much for your insight on
choosing a front sight. I have several
reloads that work pretty well with my
2011 SR 1911 Full Size 45ACP. I would
keep the Rear Sight and change out the
Front Sight must likely the same height.

I have quite a few rounds through my
SR1911, it has been an excellent, problem
free 1911 for me, but every so often I read
someone's sight breaks off.

My SR1911 is for Range time and holstering
during hunting. One day I'll take it, one day
I'll take a 45Colt, and one day I'll take a 44Rem
Mag, you get the picture.

You're right about the 1911 for defense carry
and I definitely like the small Glock 43.

Thanks again.
