why would anyone post on this website the cases and cases of ammo????????????? they could find you and you would have a real problem ....................they could do nothing for two weeks and all of a sudden you have unwanted guests with a hand truck and a shotgun or bat helping themselves to your inventory...you're not going to do yourself any good hiding behind boxes of ammo and you're ego is over-riding the logic of showing the world what you have...........................
I quit worrying about 'them' finding out I have guns and ammo in my house years ago... but then I was raised in the rural South and it was just assumed everybody had guns and ammo in their homes. The problem 'they' will have if they come to my house is actually finding the guns, now the ammo is not that hard... it's all in a cabinet down in our stowage area... and it is not even locked. But really, stealing ammo can't be that lucrative...... the dern stuff weighs too much... try carrying one 30 cal. ammo can with a thousand rounds of 9mm or .223 in it.... that is work.

Kind of like the red flag laws... if I got tagged with one of those it is going to cost the city a lot of money in manpower and such.... most of these politicians don't have a clue... they think the gun world is like on TV where everyone including the cops only have one gun and a box of ammo.

I often wonder why we "stock up" on large quantities of ammo. Planning on a running door-to-door street fight against "them"? Seeing ammo as a medium of exchange after the stuff hits the thing? Gonna supply the neighborhood militia?

Many years ago I did buy a case of ammo for each of my half-dozen favorite guns, as well as a goodly stockpile of reloading components . . . just because it was available and I had the money and there was a certain concern about ammo becoming scarce for one reason or another. My outlook has changed a little over the years and I have sold some of my once-favorite pieces and thus the ammo for them. I still have what I think I might need and individual pieces I just like having . . . like Ruger OM single-actions. ;)

I have no problem with whatever someone else might have. None of my business. Just wonder sometimes . . .

FWIW, the outfit that I buy most of my ammo from tells me that their sales have increased by a factor of 20X since yesterday....Can't say that I'm surprised, and far as that goes, wouldn't be too surprised to see prices start to increase if it keeps up.

I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Is it the "Civil War / bloodbath" mindset, and if so how does the Trump incident escalate it? If that isn't it, what is causing it? I'm not arguing anything, , just asking a question for which I have no answer.

Even worse is they could send over Nancy Pelosi to torture you. "The Great Plot to steal Home owners ammo." Got to be the Russians behind this. Actually got a good laugh.

I can't answer it Joe, I really don't have a rational answer for having something like 15,000 rounds of various ammo. This reminds me I need to redo my inventory list... too many hand written additions and subtractions on it. As I think I said, one of the nice things about having that much ammo is at least for me it does not hurt to share at an event like our East Coast Ruger Gathering. (That should be the first weekend in October again this year....hint .... hint. )

I stock pile, and have been for years. So what? I also stock pile as much money as possible for the same reason. I also love shooting, it is my hobby and I shoot a lot. So what if I stock pile? I could sell it ALL tomorrow and make a profit. And this nonsense that someone will find out where I live and is coming over with a truck is utter nonsense. If that happens they might get more ammo than they bargained for.
Amazing how some forget when we could not even get ammo. Yep, they forget quickly. I remember when there was a line about 50 yds with people trying to buy one box of .22.cal
We also live in a time when all hell could break loose. A broken Border, America on the verge of total bankruptcy and God knows, even a nuclear hit. For God sake, they just attempted to kill our future President. This is NOT the America we use to love. There are those working hard to KILL it.
There is a Old Saying. "Be Prepared". Always have a plan B.

All I know is that with these reoccurring "ammo crises" I'll probably never ever see another #11 percussion cap for sale, ever.

I have 1,000 CCI #10s that don't fit any of my guns but I'm really not looking forward to sanding all of my nipples. :(
I think the same thing with 300 Savage ammo. It is slowly showing up on shelves. Still too expensive.
I am lucky to have a small stash.

I have to throw in that I really admire you guys (sorry that might be sexist but pretty much true) who reload. You have much more discipline than me for sure.
Oh heck it's easy. You just take an empty shell, drag it through a bowl of Bullseye until full, then seat bullet. A crush fit works most if the time but those case bulges are a nuisance. Thank goodness my old Hog leg is a might loose. ;)

My personal thought on the matter of "stocking up":
What if for some reason, the day comes that ya simply can not get any more....As-in, at all....as-in, the foreseeable future?....Yeah, I know there are plenty of folks that will jump right into that by saying things like "I don't have to worry because I'm a reloader have pounds and pounds of components". Thing is though, that don't really address the problem in general, nor the question at hand. But even if it did, when the day comes that they'll be no more ammo, they'll be no more components either.....In fact, recent history tells me that components may well be the first to go.
As to your other questions....no, I'm not planning any fire fights, and I'm certainly not planning to give it to anyone else. Maybe use it for trade or barter material?...Oh no, my thought on that is that anyone whom is stocking up on ammo thinking that it will be great for trading during some fantasy SHTF scenario has maybe been reading too many survival blogs. LOL.

But ya know, that's just me. But hey, even if you don't agree with me, there's one thing that I think everyone here CAN agree on....Namely, that we live in an unsure world.

When my father went in with some work buddies and they bought a case of Chinese SKS each rifle came with a 1200 round case of ammo. One of the guys wanted more ammo and my father sold him 600 rounds of his case. When the guy asked my father if he was okay with only the 600 rounds my father answered if I need more and can't get it with what I got then I don't deserve it.

Ever hear of 'Chaos' theory? It's that butterfly flapping it's wings in Brazil. ;) Seriously tho, it is a legitimate consideration in engineering, natural environment, economic, and social systems (among others) behavior patterns that explain quite a lot. Technically it's referred to as 'Non-linear, dynamical systems, theory'.

Well ya know, it ain't always fear driven, panic, or about hoarding either. Meaning that a guy can shoot up a case of ammo a lot faster than the non-shooting public would think. I've not participated in 3-gun type shooting sports, but I've done other things...SASS (aka "cowboy shooting") , NRA Service Rifle, informal skeet (aka: backyard clay busting), etc...Plenty enough of 'em to know that shooting sports in general, plus the required practice they take, can use up a BUNCH of ammo. Not to mention that I've been through more than a couple of training regimens that required 500 rounds just to get through the weekend. And, one doesn't see it mentioned much, but some of us will shoot up a lot a ammo just testing a new (or repaired) gun and/or testing new magazines....Just sayin' that we ain't all "collectors" here, and that some of us do more than occasionally sit at a bench and launch a few rounds off of a sandbag.
