Alternative to tang safety for an Ruger American Rifle ?

So, a few years ago I bought a standard RAR in .308 Winchester. The rotary magazines I bought plus the free replacement one from Ruger won't reliably feed, so I ended up replacing the magwell with one that takes AI mags. I have found a couple of loads it likes, but the one thing I hate about it is the location of the safety. I wrap my thumb over the top of the tang to get a good, solid grip (grew up hunting with a Winchester 94), and due to the length of my trigger finger, the web of my thumb ends up tight against the back of the safety. No matter how tightly I pull the gun into my shoulder, when it goes off the web of my thumb gets whacked. I just replaced a Marbles tang peep sight on my Win 94 with a receiver mounted Williams peep for the same reason. It was right where my thumb needed to be.

Is there an aftermarket safety that is not tang mounted? Maybe as part of an aftermarket trigger assembly? I looked at Timney's trigger for the RAR, but it ties in to the existing safety.

Thanks in advance.

I learned many years ago that only the biggest recoiling rifles like my 375HH 338 RUM or 358 NM need the thumb of the trigger hand wrapped around the wrist area of a rifle. Your better off letting the thumb just ride upright without any pressure. Practice it. It works. BTY, look how snipers and match shooters grip the wrist area of the rifle their firing. Not all but most will not use the thumb in anyway to grip the rifle. If the thumb is over the top of the rifle no pressure is used.

If you inspect a stock meant for long range match shooters you will notice a scalloped-out area for the thumb on the right side or left side depending on whether the shooter is right or left hand shooter. Your thumb should be along the side of the end of the bolt (right or left) and you would not have any interference with the safety. Just a suggestion.

The trigger/safety mechanism is an integral part of the rifle's action(built/assembled into the rear tang). Changing anything about it would be difficult. Far easier to just look at a different 'platform'.
