Yes. I had some barrel work done on a BH in 41 Mag. Easy job but he treated it just like it was a major job. Quick turn-a-round, fair price and I was extremely pleased with the result. I've heard nothing but praise for his work and when I finally get around to converting the 3 screw .357 to .44 Spl he's the one I'll go to.

I received my 44 special conversion project from him just last week. Shot it today. I couldn't be more happy with his work or with his personality. Even before recieving this project, i felt so comfortable with him, that already sent him another project back in April. Alan is a fine person and a heck of a smith.

Did somebody say Harton 44 Special :D

Anyone have a current Email address for Mr. Harton?
I've tried to contact him at [email protected] but not recieved a response...been three or four days. He may just be busy or the address may not be current.

Thats the correct e-mail address I just had some cylinder work done by him and swapped e-mail a few times and thats the address I used.

Well,
He lives about 20 miles from me. I have given him enough work that he gave me one of his jackets with Single Action Services on the back :D :D
I also introduced the Ruger Forum guys to him in 2003.
A little of his work.

I'm expecting to get my SBH project from him any day now. Seems like a real nice guy from phone conversations. He told me his helper has been out of commission due to carpal tunnel surgery. That's had him pretty backed up lately. I'm planing some other projects for him already and I havn't even seen this one yet.

I've seen some and held one of 2dogs guns from Alan and I think he might be a bit biased, but justly so!! :D

ALAN DOES GREAT WORK----HE CONVERTED TWO ORIGINAL GREAT WESTERN 22'S TO 44 AND ONE FLATTOP TO 44. HIS PRICES WERE REASONABLE----HE IS A VERY NICE GUY.

Alan has done three (3) .44 Special conversions for me-two (2) OM Blackhawks and a M28 S&W.

One Blackhawk was a 4 5/8" using a SBH barrel and the other was done using a 5 1/2" Colt New Frontier barrel.

All were topnotch and at very reasonable prices.

Be patient. He is the best sixgunsmith in the USA and
he is busy and backlogged.

Absolutely true. I had to wait quite a while for Alan to get around to working on the gun pictured below, but when my turn came up Alan provided excellent service at very reasonable prices and built the most accurate and best personally tailored gun I've ever had the chance to own, or even touch.

On this .357 Bisley turned Super, Alan made and installed a 9 inch custom bull barrel, fitted a rail that I manufactured, manufactured and installed a custom front sight to my specs, did an amazing action job, scalloped the recoil shields, installed a power customs free spin pawl, installed an aftermarket steel ejector housing and fitted it to the non-stock shape of the barrel. He was also kind enough to send photos of the process as he did the work to keep me up to date, and charged the very reasonable price of $680 for the work and return shipping. To put that in perspective; I had the idea for this gun long ago, and before finding out about Alan, I'd been shopping around for a pistol smith to do the work for me: Hamilton Bowen quoted me the price of $400 or so for just the barrel work alone.

Just to be clear as to what was included there, I should point out that before sending him the gun, I had swapped the bisley parts for their SBH equivalents and installed the lanyard stud and custom base pin that I made. Also, at my request, he didn't do anything to the finish of the gun aside from bluing the front sight: when I got it back, I polished the last of the bluing off to refinish it, but decided that at least temporarily I liked the look of the bare steel. Over a year later, I still have yet to refinish the gun: I'm thinking I'll do a cold blue on it to give it a medium gray tone and just keep a close, rust preventing eye on it.

I met Alan at a gunshow at the Brown Convention Center in 2003. We talked for quite some time. I recall his simple statement, "I can put the metal on and remove it too". I quickly commissioned my first custom gun. It was to be a basic 44 Special conversion on an OM 357. Then I remembered that statement, hmmm, from that point on my imagination took over and this is what was created and has been seen many times before. One must really hold to piece to appreciate the metal work. That said, we do live in a time where there are 4 or 5 top 'smiths that can truly turn out whatever one dreams up, Alan is certainly one of them.

Boxhead, that .44 drives me crazy every time I see it. Perfectly executed. It is the inspiring force behind my .38 Special Single Six project.

I have six sixguns at Alan's shop right now, and I am planning a trip to visit when one of my major projects comes up in the rotation.

This minor project just came home.

Alan is one of the finest men you will meet or do business with, simple as that. His work has to be held to fully appreciate. He has been kind enought to work on several projects for me and I've been thrilled with each one. The 44 that boxhead pictured one of the two reasons that I first called Alan, the other would be 2dogs :) Boxhead's statement was dead on about adding metal, Alan is probably the best welder out there for firearms that I know of. He does absolutely amazing work! Here is my 475 and my son's bearcat from Alan......
