Hello: I am looking to purchase a used Ruger Single Six w/ both the 22 LR and 22WMR cylinders. I've been looking on Gunbroker to learn what the market ( price/condition/ availability) is . I have 2 Rugers, a Security Six and a Speed Six and they are my 2 favorite woods carry pistols. I see the Single Sixes come in various barrel lengths, the most common appears to be the 5.5 inch which is fine for me. Any suggestions about what to look/ stay away from for would greatly appreciated. I've purchased several revolvers, including my Security Six, on Gunbroker so I understand it's the open market on the Internet, Buyer Be Informed. Thank you for your time and expertise.

It's really hard to go wrong with any Single-Six! :p

For your first one, I'd suggest a New Model Single-Six Convertible, with adjustable sights. Available in Blue or Stainless, handy barrel lengths from 4-5/8", 5-1/2", or 6-1/2". Readily available, still made/serviced, usually no worries about carrying/shooting a fine collectible, probably best Single-Six prices you'll find.

I like Stainless, and I prefer either the 4-5/8" or 5-1/2" barrel. Stainless 4-5/8" barrel is a "Distributor Exclusive," so a little harder to find. The 4-5/8" just looks "right" to my eye, and is a handy length. Nothing wrong with 5-1/2", plus it gives you a slightly longer sight radius. The 6-1/2" barrel is getting toward "unwieldy" for belt carry, IMHO.

Many of us end up with more than one Single-Six... 8)
