That adjustment is just for taking out the overtravel before the trigger(you) actually fire the gun. You might want to get a Volquartsen, Clark, etc. trigger where the overtravel can be adjusted externally(do not have to dissassemble gun for each adjustment). You also might want to get a Volquartsen Sear to get your trigger pull down to about 2.5 lbs.

Here's a couple of links for more information:

A big thanks for your help!

BTW every MKII I have ever seen the factory "Target" triggers had the set screw for the overtravel screwed completely in & had blue locktite on the threads..
That's the first "MOD" to do to one, It does require dismantleing the frame some & as stated above the adjustment must be made then put back in .
It takes a few tries to get it just right, you want some overtravel so the sear face isn't ruined by the hammer..
I'm sure that's why Ruger doesn't waist the time to set it up at the factory.
Enjoy!!

My over travel on the trigger is short enought for me. Would just having a V Q sear install get the pull weight down to 2lbs? the question can this be also done without changeing the Trigger travel as it is ? Iam trying to keep cost down right after X-Mas....thanks for input...

I'm thinking of doing this myself..
Plan on picking the complete Volquarzen Trigger Kit up this weekend but there $95, Plus I wanna get a Exact Edge extractor about $10..
I had one for my 10/22 & put it in my MKII, now I need the replacement for the 10/22..
