A single action dilemma

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Looks like Watertender got some old coots all riled up.....probably did them a favor getting some feathers ruffled and adrenaline flowing....but to reinsert sense and goodwill into some of the stubborn old coots would be a miracle that even the best caretakers from Visiting Angels could not perform.

I bet if I make it another 15 plus years I may be just like them! according to my Wife.......

Coot................................................................. Old coot

A friend of mine is in his 80's and has a 1958 vintage Ruger Single-Six that is unconverted. He insists on loading all 6 chambers. I keep trying to convince him to only putting 5 in the cylinder by loading 1 chamber, skipping 1 chamber, loading 4 and cocking the hammer fully then lowering it on the empty chamber. Nothing I say can convince him to carry it with 5 rounds... Any ideas how I can convince him to load it safely?
I know what works for me, maybe you should let him do what he likes! Just a Thought!
Butting heads never works!

"Quote from a dumb old geezer perhaps?"

This comment is totally out of line when expressed about Mr. Bob Wright. Mr. Wright,, has proven time & time again that he's definitely NOT a Dumb old geezer around here.

You owe him a BIG apology.
Thank You! Bob Wright is one of the finest people on here. I second your comment about Bob being owed an apology.

Does anyone have any period literature that says to only load five? I've looked for the original Army manual for the 1873 and can't find it.

None of the Sackett boys ever mention only loading five.

Hey, Bob
I am relatively new to this forum, and know you only thru your posts. A person can gain a lot of insight into who they are dealing with by their posts, how they express themselves and their content. I have always found your posts to be positive, informative and enlightening. I feel it is my loss that I don't know you personally. Pay no attention to the trolls, it is an even greater loss for them.

On a lot of the westerns, they get into running gun battles and never reload!! I was watching a movie the other night, slips my feeble brain which one, a man was teaching a younger boy to handle a SA, and he brought it up. If I can remember the movie I will post it.
