Maybe I've told this story here before. If I have, just pass on and chalk it up to an old man's memory lapse.

Some time back I dropped in at one of the gun shops near me, and saw this Ruger New Vaquero in the case, a .45 Colt:

Well, I bought the thing, even though I didn't need another .45 nor another Vaquero. But those grips...............

Well, I took those stags off and sent off to Brownell's for a pair of black plastic grips, which went onto the Vaquero:

Now you understand that I have no gun for those stags ~ the Vaquero grip frame is unique among the newer guns of the Vaquero/Blackhawk Flat Top vintage. What on earth could I possibly do with such an odd pair of grips?

Well, of course, sell the Vaquero and buy a gun with the correct grip frame!

Now all that was left to do is swap out grips:

A man must make some decisions, and hopefully, they turn out to be alright:

End of story.

Well Bob, a nice story and beautiful guns - except for the part about selling the 7.5" Vaquero. I've never seen one anywhere (and wouldn't mind having one eventually for my meager collection).

PS - Good shooting. That paper looks DRT.

I acquired one of the 7.5" .45 Colt new Vaqueros while they were still available. If I remember correctly, it was right after watching a Gunsmoke marathon cause Mr. Dillon carried the most powerful handgun available. As far as the 44 Special Blackhawk is concerned, I acquired the first one I could lay my hands on and have both barrel lengths in blue and a 4.6" New Vaquero .44 Special, as well. Nice grips!! Bob!!

BOB: I can't tell You how much I have enjoyed Your Stories, and the pictures of Your Single Action Pistols You have shared with us. You have some really exquisite Single Action Rugers and Colts. I spent a lot of time when I was young and growing up with my Grandpa and His Old Cowboy Friends. And they to the Man prefered, used, and owned Single Action Pistols, Lever Action Rifles, and Pump and Side by Side Shotguns for the most part. And maybe because of this, I have had a weakness and a love affair with them my whole life, and I am still drawn to them like a moth to a flame to this day.
Thank You:
