A New addition to the Six clan

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Well, since this post was about new additions here is another.

I just won an auction for a RDA-36 with a low back frame. This will fill a hole in my collection. The pictures makes it look like the bluing is kinda rough but we'll see when I get it.

This will give me the 3 bbl lengths of blued low back Security Sixes, the 3 bbl lengths of blued high back Security Sixes, the 3 bbl lengths of stainless high back Security Sixes and one low back (4") Security Six. I'm now on the hunt for a low back GA-32 and GA-36.

Are there fewer stainless low backs than there are blued?

Good snag, especially in such nice condition!

This is a 'teaser' because I don't have them all in hand just yet to post photos but....
I have scored the 3 barrel lengths of low back stainless adj. sight, in .357 mag! :D
And...
6" and 4" low back blued, adj sight in ......38 spl. :D (I suspect the 2 3/4" adj sight blued .38 spl. will be elusive.)
I do have a 2 3/4" blued .38 spl. fixed sight sq. butt.
Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, I should be able to post photos by the end of the month! :D

Of course now I see that I have some serious competition for these rare ones.

Terry,
I suspect that the Six series is going to be harder to get as I can see a lot of people "rediscovering" them. Those adjustable sight .38's are a great snag by you and I believe the 2 3/4 will be the tough one to find.

I just keep looking, sometimes I see ones that have been misidentified or people don't "see" what they really are and so they don't go for them. That's good for people like you and I :D

Ron,
I'd guess right now there's maybe a doz. of us kind of picking these up when we can. No telling how rare some models are. In other words, there may be at least a doz. of each so we can each have one. :D
I'm beginning to think the really rare lowbacks are the adj. sight stainless in .38 spl. and the fixed sight stainless in either 357 mag. or .38 spl. I've yet to see one show up.

So far, I think, only two 6" low back stainless .357s have been reported with a 3rd showing up but reported as originally having a 4" barrel and sent back to the factory to have the long barrel swapped. It should letter as a 4".
I managed to pick up the only 2 3/4" stainless, 357 low back I've come across. I'm sure there are more out there.
The fun is in the hunt!

good find, and great pictures..................nice to"see" a few folks actually "collecting" DA revolvers, can remember in the "old days" only two guys we knew who did DA revolvers were Sonny Johnson & DK Hummel !! we had the shop and could not give them away around here !! The ONLY way we were able to sell them was to actually carry them, and folks would buy what we carried, had the snubby stainless 9mm for over a year and half!!
