I am looking to buy a #1 buttstock in decent used condition. I have a #3 in 45-70, that was my Dad's. For sentimental reasons, I don't want to install a recoil pad, as this would mean permanently altering the gun. Needless to say, with a stout handload, it kicks like a crazed mule.
I want to convert it to a "#2" for hunting purposes, and keep the original stock for display.
Can anyone help?
Thank you all very much.

Even with a no 1 stock, with stout handloads with bullets over 300 gr., she will still kick like a crazed mule.
I was looking for a hunting stock a couple years ago, found a synthetic one that I could afford. Don't remember the maker as I didn't follow through, but try a search and see. Midway,Product #: 133563 Manufacturer #: 6688-30
Most wood sets are very spendy.
