I'm a fan of the Three Persons design to the point of owning & having used a box full of them. On the trail.

But an open top holster with no security straps whatsoever, with minimal concealment, is a great way for an older gent to loose his gun to a thug, or to be shot by their own gun.

This ain't TV, & I ain't Matt Dillon.

Well, I do fall into the category of "older" while "gent" may be questionable.

But, as to losing my gun to a thug, first of all, he has to know I am armed and where my gun is. Secondly, he has to know how to fire a Single Action revolver. (Recent case: burglar was shot by homeowner because the burglar didn't know to thumb cock a Single Action.) And I won't let anyone get in arm's reach of me unless I know them very well. This "six foot distance" practice has benefitted me very well. Sort of gets my hackles up when that is encroached.

I agree but with single action revolvers it's different. The trigger can't do anything before the hammer is manually cocked so with the hammer down or on half cock the gun is safe.

When I carried a Three Screw Ruger, or a Colt, there was an empty chamber under the hammer. Now I carry a New Model Blackhawk fully loaded.

I'd be willing to wager that Bob's been carrying a revolver for appx. 60 years without shooting himself or others accidentally. ;)
Been about 60 yrs for me and I did shoot myself once, but it was while disassembling a .22 auto while in my early 20s..

All of my holsters cover the trigger guard. And when most of the gun is so enclosed, it is less likely to come out accidentally if a retaining strap comes undone etc. The form fitting holster of today by Galco and similar, retain the gun very well without needing a strap. My opinion.

Here's a few more of my holsters that I made 30+ years ago.

Finally got the knife work done. Holy crap my eyes aren't what they used to be. Now for the real tooling. Definitely way more ambitious on this scale.

Good looking and functional holsters Bob. I bought three Threepersons holsters from EPS four months ago for my 4 & 6 inch K frames and my 4 5/8 Flattop Blackhawk. Since they are my field holsters I went with the snap strap.

Not half as bad as I thought they'd look. Tomorrow I can sew, sand and finish the edges and rub in some Carnauba wax.
