A couple of weeks ago I purchased a sweet Taurus 24/7 PRO 9mm made in 2008. My first experience in a stryker fired gun. One of the sweetest shooting guns I've ever fired. POA = POI at 21 feet. First High capacity firearm I've owned also. The only drawback was the fact that the safety was the only thing keeping the firing pin from being activated if the trigger was inadvertently jostled. Since this was replacing my 38 snubbie as a carry weapon, that was a big drawback. Maybe It was a confidence thing.

Now the dilemma. I traded the snubbie for a Ruger p95dc with 3 mags. This is an older firearm with alot of wear showing on the polymer frame. Function seems to be fine. I've only been able to fire two rounds through it and it cycles and feeds fine, with POA=POI at 25ft. I love the Decocker function. I have no problem carrying this with one in the chamber.
How much does age figure in the life expectancy of the polymer frame. I won't really get a handle on the reliability until I get to the range and am able to put more rounds down range.

I don't think I'm going to be able to keep both. Which one do I keep? Is the age difference really a problem.

Your comments will be appreciated.

I vote for the P95, reason being that I believe Ruger customer service to be far better than Taurus. I've shot the 24/7 in 9mm and .40, and the OSS model in .45, and all were as you describe - "sweet shooting". And none of the ones I've had experience with have ever broken down or missed a beat. In fact, their owners are tickled to death with them. But there are literal "horror stories" out there from folks who've had to return them for repair.

And a little external wear on a P95 would just add a bit of character to it I would say. They're tuff little guns from what I can tell. I'm well satisfied with mine.

I, like you really like the decocker models. You are ready to go, without fumbling with a safety, with the peace of mind of not having a cocked striker or hammer. A little wear on a P-series Ruger won't be a problem.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and listed the 24/7. One day I might try the decocker version, but right now I'm staying with the P95dc. I don't want to introduce doubt into any situation where I might need to use the gun. With the P95dc I have confidence it's going to operate the way it supposed to, when I want it to.

Looks to me like maybe solvent might have damaged the finish on the polymer. Doesn't affect function, so I don't think I'm to worried about it.

It's growing on me. Not as nice looking as the 24/7 but shoots as good. A little harder to conceal than a 38 snubbie but I like the capacity. What else can you do to polymer to spiff it up?

I polished the frame on my P95 with some 000 and 0000 steel wool and an automotive wax by turtle wax called liquid ice. I moistened the steel wool with the liquid ice a polished the frame. I now use the liquid ice on the frames of my glocks and my P95 after cleaning them. Forget the stippling go with some skateboard grip tape.

I really need to go lay down now, I'm going to have nightmares, maybe I'll hit myself over the head with my clock radio. Yeah, that might make it all better.

That P95 is good to go for 100,000 rounds : ) That little finish wear means nothing to the reliability.
