With the photo imaging sites changing and breaking links, some of the old discussion threads lack the original photos. A couple of photos of my RLS DZ:

Edited to correct the "DZ" laminated stock designation.

Very nice... Do you have the box as it's not a Z the Z is partial Could be a DZ ( Which I have , yours looks redder) or a BZ A factory letter would be worth the cost IMO to verify if you don't know

No box, but do have the letter. Just dug it out and you're right It's a "DZ."

Based on past conversations I believe you have one that is .270 caliber?

Don't see many of these around.
my deer gun DZ which I just gave to my son, which shipped in 1987, his birth year, is an 06

There used to be a 270 around but I think I may have sold it...not sure

My rarest laminated tang 77 is a green one that is factory checked and was used as a salesman sample. Ruger didn't make many as the checkering was far too difficult

I haven't seen the checkered Ruger laminate stock, but I have a Remington 700 varmint laminate in .222 - I believe they call it 700 VLS? And looking at the checkering on that rifle as it crosses the different laminations and grain I imagine it is very difficult checkering process.

That s a great story on your rifle, gifted to your son.

I have been a long time Ruger 77 RS collector and would like to know what is a BZ? Thanks, James.

All those double secret codes are listed here.
