A Big Thank You to the Moderators Here

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I'll add another big Thank You here to the moderators. There was a thread in the classifieds that went sideways for awhile and a lot of work by moderators in the background to tactfully and thoughtfully get it worked out. Another example of the great job done by moderators and the awesome people here!!

I have been here for a while and can say that this forum is operated MUCH better than the others I frequent. Having been a MOD on another forum some time ago I can tell you that the difference between the 'hall monitor' and 'doing your job' sometimes is a thin line. Thanks to ours here for a great job.

Having been a MOD on another forum

Agreed. I was a MOD on a predator hunting forum. You'd think folks would join a forum because they were like minded and shared the same interest.
One thing you learn quick is text has no tone and you need to feel the member out some. It is plain as day when members are blatant in certain things they do to agitate others. In my experience, some MODS saw things differently when discussing whether to warn or ban a member. It became too much like another job, even having assigned "shifts" to cover. I found myself not enjoying that forum any longer. Some members are just loonies or have an agenda and have to spoil things.

Overall I think they do a good job here. No complaints as I understand it can take time to get something handled. I trust they will as I've seen them do it here. I will admit I've been "that guy" and reported. I hate doing that because I know they are on it already. But in my experience, the reports were sometimes great evidence.

Same here as I was a moderator for several years on a Civil War reenactor site. You would think it would be a "easy going" group but about every third member viewed himself as "God's gift" to the hobby and would lord it over the others and most of the time was spent in breaking up fights and getting everyone to play nice in the sandbox.

Great job here, fellas......

I'm just gonna share my bad experience, self induced. On another forum many years ago. Someone made a critical comment about one of my posts. I snipped back and then got another critical comment from him and I just went off on him totally. Come to find out he wasn't just a moderator, he was the person who founded the forum. I thought ok, at least I can view what was being said on the forum, but no, you can be blocked from even seeing the forum. I don't remember how I got in touch with him, I think it was through a member who was also on another common forum that I was on. Anyway, I relayed an I'm sorry message through him and let him know I would get down on my knees and even kiss his shoes to be accepted back on the forum. It worked and I was let back in on probation and I've behaved ever since. We don't realize how much these forums mean to us until we lose them.

I don't know the circumstances exactly and I appreciate what you're saying, but It sounds like he overreacted as well.
Then again, I guess if it's my forum I can do whatever in the heck I want.
The first amendment only applies to the government.
