I just got a chance to shoot my 96/44 at the range. I topped it with a Weaver 4x32 Shotgun. What a great scope. I only had one load to try and was not completely happy with it. It was the Leverevolution Load. I got about 2" at 50 yards and 4"+ at 100 yards. What are some loads that have worked well out of your 96/44 so I can get some and try? Thanks for your help. :)

I own four different 96/44's. I LOVE that rifle. That being said, some 96's shoot better than others, and I've tried lots of different factory ammo through them all.

4" at 100yds for this gun is decent from my experience. I know some here have said they have better groups with their 96's, but 3-5" at 100 seems to be about what they are capable of. And considering it is a quick-shooting, shorter range woods gun, I'm ok with what it is.

I'd be interested in hearing what improvements handloads make in your gun.

I have had great luck with my two 96/44. One is factory the other is custom stocked and fully bedded. I have had great luck with either a 255 grain hardcast or the 250 grain nosler partition over a max charge of either H110 or 296 in both guns. At fifty I am getting right around an 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 I get about 2 to 2 1/2 inch groups. Funny thing is both rifles will shoot anything to the same point of aim the only thing that changes is group size.

The top one is a unfired original 44 carbine and the bottom is the 96/44.

300gr Hornady XTP over 12gr of Blue Dot is the most accurate load I have found, will shoot one ragged hole at 50yds and justy over an inch at 100. As far as factory ammo, the Winchester 250gr platinum does pretty well in my rifle.
