Weatherby is moving to Sheridan Wyoming.

Founded in 1945 by Roy Weatherby in South Gate, California, Weatherby, Inc. is an American firearms company that prides itself on craftsmanship, reliability, and safety. The Weatherby name is known around the globe for their rifles and hyper-velocity magnum cartridges that are as accurate as they are powerful.

2018 will mark a new chapter as Weatherby will be relocating to the beautiful mountain town of Sheridan, Wyoming. Not only does it offer the perfect combination of rural living and political friendliness, it will be home to Weatherby's new custom manufacturing facility and company headquarters.

Sheridan, Wyoming will usher in a new generation of Weatherby products and innovation.

Hallelujah!

I hope all business moves away.

Fast food franchises...?

Dead.

Why?

Insistence that non-skilled labor be paid 'skilled labor wages' mandated by law. Pssst, the public won't pay $15.00 for a mediocre burger...dumb bunny.

Illegal Aliens demand free stuff....medical, general welfare, etc.

Sure, California secedes without a formal declaration, we won't miss you..

When reality hits, you'll want back in...too bad.

Despite the fact that there are many unpopular laws in California the state has a very large economy (6th largest in the world) and I doubt they will miss a gun manufacturer or two moving out. It's really a win win for everyone. Sometimes things have to change.

Don't blame them for leaving, its a good thing, I bet the good Californians that work there- can't wait to get out of this chit ole state.

We just had another Illegal Alien- New Democrat Protected Criminal- rape beat and rob some girls a few weeks ago.

A Mexican man living in the U.S. illegally used his job as an Uber driver to target intoxicated young women and was charged Monday with raping, assaulting and robbing four victims, California prosecutors said.

"Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez drove women to their homes, assaulted them, and stole property including cellphones, computers and jewelry, officials said. He collected his fare payments through the smartphone app Venmo to disguise his identity and his Uber records."

If I was a family member of those women-- I just don't know how the hell you could take it.

Hi,

Right on schedule! Someone mentions something bad about CA and what do we see or hear from first?

This is about money.
Not California.
Not Wyoming.
Next we'll hear Wyoming members chime in with complaints about tax dollars buying Weatherby to come there.

Moving any business, small or large, will bankrupt you if you aren't perfectly researched, marketed, planned and financed. I know. I own a business in IL and from my office window can see across the Mississippi River to Missouri. Why am I still in IL? Missouri hasn't offered to write a big enough check. Without a financial incentive the other "benefits" don't pass the financial smell test.

Your next Weatherby just got more expensive.

The Business Council worked with the Sheridan Economic and Education Development Authority (SEEDA) Joint Powers board to develop a $12.6 million grant package. SEEDA committed $2,283,074 in local match funds, of which $322,874 is cash. The other $1,960,200 is in-kind match for Lot 1 in the Sheridan High-Tech Business Park. The joint powers board will use the money to build a 100,000 square-foot building in the Sheridan High-Tech Business Park. SEEDA will own the facility and lease it to Weatherby.

Weatherby will invest an estimated $2 million in relocation expenses and cover all capital investment in the building and lot over the life of the 20-year lease, which is expected to be well over $4 million.

Two words come to mind when I hear anyone rejoicing in CA (or any other state) losing a major employer:

There was a great story about one of the Weatherby mgmt., was in the store when the Rodney King riot was happening. Everything was in the vaults but back in the gunsmith area there was a barreled action in 460 Weatherby Magnum. He took the barreled action and put it in a stock, grabbed some 460 cannon ammo and went up on the roof. There was a large crowd coming down the street and they were throwing 55gal drums through store windows. Apparently he dead centered the barrel as it was held over their heads and knocked down several of the rioters and I imagine a huge ear splitting boom got their attention. The crowd changed directions and left the Weatherby store alone. I hope that story is true and would love to see it repeated with Antifa

I see where some California legislators are planning on passing a law to take 50% of the savings companies experience thanks to TRUMP'S tax cuts for business.
Wonder how may will pack up and move out.
I remember when California decided to start basing their inventory tax on the AVERAGE inventory over the whole year rather than the on a fixed date in March( April ?). A LOAD of companies packed up and moved their warehouses across the border to Nevada and TRUCKED their goods into the stores in Calif.
They just never learn in California it seems.

Urban legend:

The South Gate Police Departments decision to focus on areas that could become hotspots of looting was also important. No situation was dealt with lightly or considered to small.

"We were very vigilant and didn't ignore the small flares that could turn into large ones if unattended," said Davis.

The careful guarding of businesses that were particularly prone to being looted was also important. The Weatherby rifle shop and manufacturer on Firestone Boulevard was given particular attention by the local police.

"That was a target we were very concerned about," said Troxcil. "We were worried about folks coming over from other cities to loot the weapons from the store. "

Weatherby is no longer in South Gate and the building that it once used now houses an auto services shop. The building at the time had windows that gave it a certain amount of fragility.

"If [the looters] smashed the windows, and were fast enough, they could have gotten a hold of the weapons and ammunition," said Captain Darren Sullivan, as he recalled the specific worries of the time.

Were I offered a free home and living expenses I wouldn't go there, anymore than I'd live in Russia,
China, Cuba or Venezula.

Why not?

Our definition of free isn't the same...

The legislators who floated that bit of obvious theft would have required 2/3rds majority and the governor's signature and ballot initiative to be passed into law. I hesitate to never say never when it comes to the confluence of Democratic Party greediness and CA voter foolishness, but this would be a tough one to sell. Just the thought of it is offensive though, nothing more than state sanctioned theft from one who has it to those who want it, but can't do it on their own.

Weatherby made a business decision based on issues important to them and in their self-interest. As I am not running their company nor otherwise in the loop I'll presume they know better than me what to do with their company.

California wants to declare itself it's own commie nation while people/businesses are leaving in droves.

Who'll the Ca. government steal from when only the homeless remain?

California is doomed.

Sure, one relatively small company leaving California is not going to affect their left wing decision making. But thousands have left in recent decades. Back when Republicans controlled California, and it was a business friendly state, it was the 5th largest economy in the world. Currently it is the 7th largest (not the 6th as stated by a post earlier) and dropping. There are more people on welfare in California than any other state. No state has as many illegal immigrants as does California (between the pro-illegal political climate, and the radical "reconquistas" who have vowed to make California as well as AZ and NM part of Mexico again, this will continue to get worse). Two of my adult children have recently relocated to southern California for work related reasons. There are three major comments that I hear repeatedly from them: the weather is great, the cost of living is unbelievably high, and the number of homeless people seen everywhere is beyond anything they could have imagined. Add to that the left wing and anti-gun political climate, and I have told my wife that I would prefer to remain here in awful Illinois before I would ever consider moving to California.

vito,

Excellent observation.

It's also one of the filthiest states (I mean that in the most literal sense) in the nation.

Years ago, I lived there for a short time and later did my Army Basic Training and AIT at Fort Ord just outside Monterey.

We'd go to Carmel on the week-ends once out of Basic. Christ it was beautiful.

Now, it's spiraling downward into 3rd world s-hole.

I loved California.

Then the left/commie/progs ruined it.

Good memories of Weatherby's in South Gate. Used to pass it going and coming from work everyday. Would stop in a couple times a week to drool over the inventory.

Bought my first Ruger MK1 there. Walked in, plucked down my $49.99 and walked out with the gun. Those were the days and such good memories.

You were one of those despicable rich guys. While I drooled on the Mark I, I had to settle for my RST6. If memory serves, I paid $37 for it.... but they threw in a box of Winchester "Super X" ammo. If I remember correctly, that was $0.50 - a penny a shot.
