While cruising the shops today, came across a dust covered Tang safety 77R chambered in 257 Roberts. It was a 74 prefix piece in 99% blue condition, once I cleaned the dust off. The stock however, was cracked at the narrow part of the pistol grip. The receiver, by the way was a beautiful rich plum color. Other than the crack, the rifle was pristine.

How hard are nice 77R stocks to find? I think a stock can be replaced without adding too much to the cost of the rifle, as the guy only wants $400 OTD.

They are fairly difficult to find. There used to be a company that advertised in The Gunlist that always had a pile of factory stocks (and barrels) but I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. Perhaps Vintage something or other?
