I rewrote my 5-shot 45 Colt article and thought some of you may be interested in the updates:

www.singleactions.com/FiveShot45Colts

I published the original in 2007 and it was a decent first cut. Since that time I've converted another Ruger, tried a bunch of new bullets, and tested out to 100 yards. 5-shot 45 Colt load data is somewhat sparse so I hope this is informative.

BTW, I also included some special topics and a 1966 article on Dick Casull and his custom 454 Blackhawks.

Great article. Five power levels for the 45 Colt ensures there is something for everyone.

I noticed Lee you didn't include double actions. The stock Ruger 45 Redhawk, Redhawks converted, The S&W 25 and 625, Anacondas......

Maybe an article on them.

You know, I did forget the DAs. The Redhawks, Dan Wessons, and Colts fall into the 30,000 PSI bucket. The N-frames should be held to 23,000 tier.

And I'm glad you guys enjoyed the article. Thanks for giving it a look.

I'm gonna find time to go there & re-read it. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, as you've always tried to put out excellent info!

Great read Lee. I like to learn about those big thumpers but I will most likely not ever venture past Ruger only levels in any of my shooting.
Thanks!

Not very many reasons to go past the Ruger Only loads. They'll handle just about everything except the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex.

You always get me thinking about sending one of my Ruger 45 Colts in for a 5 cylinder conversion. One of these days it might happen! I liked your article. Keep up the great work!

Lee, I followed Dick Casull's work from the mid 60's on. You stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him.

John

I know them both, and Lee is quite a bit taller.

Lee, it's never a waste of time to read your articles. Enjoyed this one again and thanks for all the effort you put into these. My favorite caliber and I always learn something new.
Thanks for sharing. Jim H
