MidwayUSA sells a round called 5.7x28mm FN. I believe it uses a 38-45 gr. (ballistic Tip) bullet. Centerfire. Anyone know anything about this cartridge. Case origin? Firearms made for it etc? I usually keep up on these things but this one threw me off guard. Thanks.

The FN pistol is a delayed-blowback design, and handloaders have blown up a few trying to duplicate factory ballistics.

This is a very specialized round, offering the performance of a mild Hornet load. It's skinny case allows for more in the magazine. With specially-constructed bullets, it will punch through soft armor.

It offers the hunter and target shooter no advantages over a number of other .22's. It's unique case head size would make it expensive to adapt to any standard-production rifle. Even if it catches on with some militaries, I doubt it will ever see much civilian use.

Also available as an upper assembly for an AR-15. It uses the same top magazine of the P-90 and bottom ejects through the AR's magwell. I want one!

I shoot an fn 5.7x28mm. it's a great little round and have had no trouble reloading it, 40 g. plastic tipped bullet is the only round available for this caliber.

There's also a V-Max 35 gr. plastic tip too! I have used Barns 36 gr. HP Varmit gernades, Sierra 40 gr. HP's & SP's. If you go to the FiveseveN forum you will find several types of bullets you can use. Almost any .224 dia bullet weighing 55 grs. or less can be used for the 5.7 round. LM
