Brand new to the forum. Ruger SBH Bisley in 480 shoots cast lead bullets like a scatter gun.

Looking for gunsmith recommendation to work on the cylinder chambers. I know SAAMi and Ruger both spec an abrupt 45 degree transition and this is shaving lead off my bullets.

Welcome to the Forum!

I shoot mostly cast in my handguns. First off,, have you slugged the bore? You need to make sure you match the bullet to the bore diameter. (Usually .001 bigger bullet than the bore diameter.) My (2) .480 Rugers shoot VERY accurately with a properly cast & sized cast bullet.

You mention an abrupt 45 degree transition. If I understand your comment,, are you saying the transition point from the cylinder to the barrel?
That would be the forcing cone,, and none of the Rugers I've ever heard of,, outside factory testing exceeded 11 degrees.
If you are discussing the shoulder from the case to the throats within the cylinder,, then I have heard of some people thinking this is causing shaving or accuracy issues.
Some of the earlier cylinders were known to have been cut "tight" causing extraction issues or such.

A little more info might help us offer assistance.

But as hittman has mentioned,, we have a member here,, "Fermin Garza" known as "2 dogs" here who does excellent cylinder work. His number; 361-960-3697. Call him. He's a great guy!

I just checked the SAAMI spec for the .480 Ruger cartridge and chamber. The chamber specifies a thirty degree bevel transition from the full case diameter to the throat diameter, with a little free play between them to allow for slightly over-length cases. This is better than a forty-five degree transition.

One of our members mentioned above should be able to work on your cylinder if necessary. :)

Just in passing . . . SAAMI doesn't spec the forcing cone at the entry into the barrel.

Member DougGuy calls his company Cylinder Hone. He uses a Sunnen machine to hone the throats and will change the transition leade into the throats to amore smooth transition on the 480.

Fermin's (2dogs) standard practice is to use a reamer. He doesn't offer any changes to the transition as far as I know. He is however a great guy I have used several times for cylinder work and they all came out perfect.
