I have killed two Russian Boars with a 44 Super Blackhawk & 1 with the 454 Super Redhawk. All with one shot!

Dropped a feral hog(200lbs) @ 85 yds w/the .454 and thereafter in the following deer season another feral (150 lbs) with the .454-also a spike offhand @75 yds and a BucK(my first w/ a handgun) @ 100yds. The .454(Freedom Arms) was scoped w/ a leupold 2X)-plenty for south Texas. Used a HDY 250g XTP load over 33.7g of H-110 and srm primers from CCI. This is plenty for me.

The 454 or the 475 would be fine but why? When what you are doing all you need is a .44 Mag. I mean why spend so much on bullets and or reloading components for such cartriges.

Now if what you are looking for is a BIG BOOMER or something like that go with any large round you wish depending on the availability to purchase said rounds and or components needed to load them.

But again for what you are doing the .44 Mag or .45 Colt will do what you need to without the expense or beating yourself up to fire the thing lol.

Between the 2 I'd go 454 because that's what I have, I can shoot my 44's a whole ot better so that'd probably be my first choice. Any will do the job.

45ACP in a 1911. There is a huge (325+pounder) mount on my buddies living room wall that he killed with one shot from his 45 at slightly under 25 yds. If I knew that was his gun of choice I would have made him take a SBH as backup. I guess it wasn't necessary tho. He hunted on a game ranch down in Southern Texas. Chief aka Maxx Load

Lloyd Smale has shot at some tough HOGs lol. So after thinking about this a bit skip the 454 and 475's and go right to the 500 Smith. Maybe they will not bounce off lol.

But you better get close like 20 yards.

With the .454, you have the option of shooting .45 Colt ammo - from mild for plinking to pretty darn hot for hunting. A reasonably stout .45 Colt load will do the job on a pig.... save the .454 stuff for big bears or a trip to Africa.

I voted for the .475 Linebaugh...because I wanted to. But with handguns, I've used the .41 Mag, .44 Mag, .45 Colt, .454, .475L, .50 AE, and .500 WE on hogs. With rifles, the .308 and .338 Wins and the .300 Weatherby ( at long range in N.Z.)
All those hogs died! Nothing is really any better than the .44 Mag.
