I thought all .45 acp was Large prime. Is the Small Prime new? As in brass made since 2000?
SP 45 has been around for while. I prefer the LP, but I hand prime and changing everytime I go from LP to SR primers can be a pain. Plus the Lyman brass working station needs changing when I change as well. I almost wish they made a LR primer for 223 at times.

Some people like the small primer .45's because they don't have to change the primer mechanism on their progressive press when they switch from.45's to .38's.

I solved that by buying a second progressive press. One is always set up for small primers, one for large.

I have never bought any .45 brass however I do salvage both and keep them sorted. One use I have for small primer brass is when there is a foot of snow on the ground or if I'm shooting in tall grass or anywhere else I know I'm not going to find any of my empties I will shoot the small primer that day.
