Ok, I pick up my new Lipsey's Ruger .44 Special tomorrow.

I've got brass on the way from Starline, should be here in a day or two. Have powder on hand, Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot and a few others. Have plenty of LP primers. And some 240 grain cast lead bullets. I have some handloading manuals on hand as well.

BUT, I'm wondering what loads y'all are using in your new Lipsey's?? :)

Seems like I saw a thread a month or two back, I did search, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the thread again.

RP, I'm using 5.5 grs of W231 with a 250 gr Keith slug as my plinker, nice, easy shooting load thats very accurate. When I wind it up for hunting it has 7.5 grs Unique & the same Keith slug, I'll be giving it a test run on muleys starting saturday.

I am using 6.7 of Unique with 240 swc&rnfp,250 Keith bullets,Starline brass,Wolf primers. This gives me a very accurate plinking load.

I've been shooting light loads of 6.7gr Unique, 4.5gr Trail Boss, and 4.7gr of HP-38 (aka W231) under a 240gr LSWC, and they're both accurate and mild.

Question: are the 250 Keith bullets available commercially, or home cast only??

The Western Bullet 429421 is not hard (don't know exact BHN) The Leadheads (proshootpro) are hardcast (22 BHN IIRC). The Montana Bullet Works 250K RCBS can be ordered had in either 22BHN or 15BHN -- the Lyman 429421 Keith is 15BHN. Mt Baldy's are 11 BHN.

With the above you can get about any combination of hardness and diameter. Also, Mt Bullet Works offers LBT Blue lube.

I've loaded the 240LSWC / 250 LFN Mastercast bullets with 7gr Unique or 7.5 Herco. Either is quite managable in the Blackhawk with the Herco giving slightly better groups. Both loads with Win SP primers.
Alliant gives 13gr of 2400 with the 250 Keith LSWC that sounds interesting but I haven't tried it.
