A shotload can tie your gun up. I had it happen many years ago in a incident. I used to carry one up in my model 60 s&w. I stupidly rapped on a car window and the impact bounced the capsel forward into the barrel tieing the clyinder up. I couldnt have fired the gun. I never knew it untill the incident was over. Now I want to load some up for .44 special and maybe .45 colt. I have killed a few snakes with them years ago. I had about forgot about them but ran across a handfull that I loaded 30 years ago and its rekindeled my intrest. I ride atv a lot here and have seen a few rattlers.

Here is a link from the cast boolit forum about this subject that may be of interest. The author helped me make the required tools to make the capsules for .32 S&W long and .32 H&R. It's a little involved, but it is a way to increase the shot load.

That method certainly is intriguing. Superb work by the originator/author.

The simple method I use seems adequate for my purposes. And frankly I don't use many shotshells.

But it would be nice to see that gentleman's idea manufactured and marketed. I would purchase, especially if available in .32 H&R Mag.

How many 32 loads can I make with a 10 pound bag of shot....

I would order some just to try but I will never go through a 10 pound bag.

You can buy a box of .410 Shot shells and remove the shot. A box will give yo a lifetime supply of # 12 shot for under $10

All I can say is, "One heckuva lot!"

Many years ago I bought a 25 lb bag of #12 shot. Am sure I've not used half of it. Its likely a lifetime supply for me. But then, I don't shoot many shotshells.

Living in MI I have no real NEED to make snake shot but it sounds like fun for bees and maybe moles and such. I am thinking of some 327 cases to give more room for shot, or a rifle case cut down like the 308/45 cases.

Ethang;
You have friends, don't you? Talk to them and maybe they will also be interested in sharing the cost of the bag. Just call it a "Group Buy" and put a "group" together.

I don't know that any of them will have an interest in #12 shot or making snake rounds...I think I will check with the shotgun guys at the club and see if anybody already has a bag. If not I will just buy some shotshells and use the shot from them. Now after reading the milk jug wad thread I am looking for bolts and milk jugs...
