.44 Magnum Carbine Thoughts?

Ruger no longer supports them IF you need parts, etc.
Doubt that'd be a problem but you should be aware.
Probably worth $800 even if it's just a plain Jane good condition model.
Low serial numbers, sporter finger groove stocks, factory checkered, etc …. All drive the price upwards.

I've always loved the original Deerstalker and very recently acquired one. Is the one you're looking at one of the earlier Deerstalker or a later generation Deerfield? Check the stock for cracks especially in front of the tube magazine well, it was a common issue in the earlier ones. Not necessarily a deal breaker but should lower the price. All the versions are pretty collectible and often come with premium prices. good luck

I have an original Deerstalker and I love it. Be weary of cast bullets, it will clog that gas port. It eats jacketed bullets like a champ. Never messed with the newer Deerfields.
If it's a lever action 96/44, they're a lot of fun and obviously port fouling won't be an issue.

Powder coated cast bullets should be fine.
Good to know, thanks! Honestly I have probably have enough jacketed ammo to last me forever given how often I shoot the thing.
Don't have the Ruger, do have a Henry Big Boy in 44mag. Great rifle, shot a good number of Ferrel pigs with it over in East Texas. the Biggest porker (sow) was about 150lbs, 40+ yds or so, neck strike, fell over dead. I will say I am only good for about 20-25 rounds at the range…. it lets you know it spit something out the dangerous end.

I sold my 44 carbine because it didn't have the "same era" look as my Super Blackhawk. I was looking at the Big Boy carbine then a very nice Winchester takedown came available here. I drug my feet and some lucky guy snapped it up. A Rossi 44 lever came up for sale cheap because the guy was frustrated trying to find ammo. It was still NIB $600.
I look at every Ruger Carbine ad and plan on adding one again they are a great little gun.
Update;
Appears to be in excellent condition…no rust, clean bore, no more than expected wear of the finish in the chamber, no cracking in the stock. Serial number 102-8xxxx indicates a 1980-1981 vintage. I'll attach a couple of pics below.
Anything else I should be concerned about?

I like mine real well. Had it since the early 70's. It came with a receiver sight.
Been told that makes it a rarer model but I don't know that for a fact. What I do
know is that it's a great quick handling brush gun for the woods.

Hope the OP doesn't mind,
Looks great. I just got a '66 one and mounted a Burris red dot on it on one of the weaver mounts. Your Bushnell is quite a bit lower on the receiver then mine is and I need one. If you dont mind, what rail/ mount are you using? Thanks
