Stopped in Gander Mountain Reynoldsburg store two weeks ago and they had a 44 mag Vaquero and a 45 colt Vaguero. Both the older type. The 45 was stainless and the 44 was case hardened. $450 each. Short on cash, so didn't buy either one.
Stopped in yesterday, and they still had the 44, so I bought it. Very good condition, no wear that I can see. Its one of the newer clean-up guns, rollmark on bottom of barrel, 5.5" barrel. Serial starts with 58-983xx. I haven't had a Vaquero in several years, just Blackhawks.
My wife put an old model Bearcat in layaway, comes with box, and in good shape, but you can tell it had been shot a good bit. Aluminum frame, serial puts it around 1969. Nice little revolver, but too small for my hands. She loved it though.
Does not have the conversion.
Have a pic of the Vaquero, but the Bearcat will have to wait a couple of weeks when I pick it up.

I have one like that. Nice guns!

+1 - I wish mine was one of the clean ups but I've learned to live with the lettering. Have a stainless companero to it as well. Super guns. I haven't free spin pawl'd them yet (going on 15 years!) - but having several New Vaqueros as well, the old indexing I admit is starting (?) to irritate a bit :) Still, I won't part with them!!

I will enjoy it, just have to find some more brass. Only have about 300 now.
Good score...

And, that 300 pieces of brass will load a lot of rounds if they are held to reasonable pressures.

That's really a nice Vaquero. I have a couple in stainless that I like as well. Might have come from watching too many westerns as a kid but the Vaquero is a favorite. Might have to get another one at some point.

As long as we're at the confessional, I plead guilty as well :)

I didn't think I'd like stainless, but somehow have ended up with as many as blued--Vs, NVs and SSs.

Very nice Vaqueros! Regarding the brass, I used to shoot a lot of 240 gr lead over 8 grains Unique.
Very mild loads.

I have a pair of Vaqueros in .44mag. in SS as well. Fine guns but prefer the NV`s mid size frame for CAS. ENJOY YOURS !!, I know you will.
