For...?

The only thing I've been able to find locally is 240 gr JSPs. IIRC, Hornady makes a load using a Barnes 300 grain solid copper slug, and the also make some good JHPs. Corbon...

I've had good luck with Magtech in their JHP ammo for every day shooting and practice. The WW white box is fair. I don't hunt much anymore so I don't have any hunting ammo advice. I mostly load my own now if I can get the components I need. Both 240gr LSWC and JHP/JSP.

Depending on what you want it for, there are a lot of loads out there. I use Magtech 240 gr JSP or Ficcotti JSP for my practice loads and I have found them to be pretty cheap off the inter-net. I usually buy 200-300 at a time as I have found the shipping to be cheaper that way.
If you are looking for a hunting or big Bear load both Buffalo Bore and Double Tap have some outstanding loads. I carry DT 250 gr SWC in my Alaskan when I am hiking and use Cor-Bon 165 gr HP for my HD needs.

I am having good luck with the Hornady 225 gr. Leverevolution rounds. I shoot them in all of my 44's. I have a 7 1/2" Super Redhawk, 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk, 6" S&W 629 and a Ruger 44 Carbine. All group well and the deer I have taken with them (3) dropped in their tracks at 45 to 70 yards. I buy them at Bass Pro for about $19/20 rounds.. BG

Welcome to the Forum!
What the posters above are saying is basically your Redhawk will handle all factory loads,, so decide what you want it to do. Target punching,, or hunting dangerous game? Lots of choices!

I like the Buffalo Bore 340 gr cast at 1475 fps. Over $2 a shot. It's the bomb. Aim for the shoulders.

240g hardcast LSWC, 7.3--7.5g Hodgdon Universal, sized case, WLP / CCI300 / CCI350 / etc.

Finish the crimp using the superior Redding Profile Crimp die.

Easy-shooting accurate inexpensive self-rolled.

i like the 240gr lsw on top of 6.5 of red dot or 7 of unique. it runs at about 900fps and can be shot alot without wear and tear on the hands and wrist. then find a box of good factorie stuff if you want to hunt/SD.

this load is my most carried load cause it will take care of most anything without exccesive recoil. and its cheap to load.

as far as brass it dosnt make that much difference and is just an availability thing right now. ussually will pop a box of factorie stuff off and then reload the cases 5-10 times. i like cci 300 primers and ussually buy remington brass just cause its what my local store carries.

if i want full house loads then its 350 primers and h110. but i ussually just buy a box

im lucky enough to have a local caster that sells bullets at a gun store around here and casts them semihard so they are only $35 for 500

If that's the case, don't buy factory ammo just to get the brass.... just go to one of the many mail-order outfits and get 500 or 1,000 new Starline.

Another option is to hit the gun shows.... you must first know the going price for once-fired brass, as the gunshow prices will range anywhere from a good deal to grand larceny.
