I can hit a beer can everytime at 50 yards with my Deerfield, but I can't keep it on paper at 100 yards (240 grains). I tried 180s, but they were 2 feet high at 50 and in the next county at 100. I could reliably make head shots on a deer at 50 with this Deerfield, but I'm not sure I could even hit a deer at 100. I expected this to be a 100-150 yard gun, but I think I could do better with a handgun. Am I expecting too much?

Mine shoots 1.5" at 100 yards with 225 gr Leverevolutions and 240 grain XTP handloads... with iron sights, I shoot quite a bit with irons, so I'm used to them. A small scope would probably help.

Well that confirms that I have a problem. My Barrel crown was messed up when I bought it, looked like it had been droppes on the crown, but damage was done before bluing. The dealer had it recrowned, but not by Ruger. I bought it new, so I guess I go to Ruger with hat in hand and see if they will fix. Thanks guys!
