Didn't say what 41 mag you have. My go to load in a 41 magnum has been a 230 gr Keith cast slug fueled with 18 grs of 2400, I've taken a lot of game with that load in the last 4 decades, its still as good as ever. You've picked a winner for a caliber, some will tell you the 44 is better, shoot 10 animals with each & see the difference for yourself........hint, you won't see any difference!

Not long ago I worked up some cast bullet loads for my short barrelled OM .41. I was shooting LaserCast 265 WFPGC's with an overall loaded cartridge length of 1.71 inches.

Alliant 2400: I loaded and tested from 13.0 to 17.0 grains. Velocities were from 1,000 fps to 1250 fps. Loadings above 15.0 grains showed only small grains in velocity.

Unique: loaded at 8.0 and 9.0 grains, 1000 fps and 1080 fps. These were economical and pleasant shooting loads and still about 600 ft-lbs. I was looking for 1000 fps so I didn't go higher on loads. This would make not only a great plinking load but also for self defense of the two-legged variety.

H-110: loaded at 19.5, 20, and 20.5 grains. Velocities were 1250 to just over 1300 fps. That top load was still easy extracting, not too bad on recoil and an impressive 1,000 ft-lbs of energy. That is a lot of power from a 4 5/8 barrel. I need to shoot some of these rounds at dusk to see how impressive the flash is.

Of course all the usual about digging up independent data and then working your way up in your own revolver.

Using 215gr SWC commercial cast on top of 7.0grs of W231, WLP primers in Remington case the velocity was 956 fps from my 4" S&W 657 Mountain Pistol. Pretty close to the old Police load.

Using 9.5grs of Unique with the same components and the same revolver on the same day the velocity was 1,157 fps. A bit more of the hunting level load.

I have yet to find an innacurate .41 mag load as this cartridge seems to shoot well with anything I've put into it.

jesss for plinkers:

The Lee Tumble Lube in .410" is hands down the best just for plinking.

And though it's far from clean burning ........ a modest dose of Unique gets lead moving in a thoughtful manner.

I get ~1100 FPS from 8.5 gr Unique under a 215 grain hard cast SWC out of my 5.5" Redhawk. It's a mild load to shoot.

I use 8 grains of unique for the same 215 gr bullet out of my om blackhawk with a 4 5/8 barrel. Super accurate and the muzzle blast doesn't hurt ya too bad.

Here are my loads:
[Jacketed, plated or cast] 5.0 grains of UNIQUE 210 or 220 grain

[Jacketed, plated or cast] 8.0 grains of UNIQUE 210 or 220 grain
Duplicates the old police load.

[Jacketed, plated or cast] 17.5 grains of 2400 210 or 220 grain.

About the only loads that do NOT shoot accurately from my 7.5" barrel RH were ones I loaded using 170 grain jacketed bullets and LOW amounts of powder. As soon as I got the amount of powder - and the velocities - up where they belonged, the groups shrunk back to where they should have been.

Every other load seems to work well in it.
