Is there any rumor, talk...hope...we could see a 4" barrel on the 44 spec GP100? I like the 3" but would like a 4 better. My luck is I'd buy the 3 then the 4 would come out next week. A fixed sight 3 or 4 option would be nice too.

If they do, it'll be 4.2".
Yep, 4.2" or similar is the new 4". Canadian law requires pistol barrel length to be 105 mm (4.13") or more so that's why the change. S&W has changed several of their former 4" revolvers to the new length also.

Didn't a distributor order a run of 4" blued .44 GP100s? Pretty sure. Worth a google anyway to verify if you're in the market.

Just the 5" blue steel Lipsey's GP 44 Spl:

I have one of the 5" half lug GP-100 44's and other than custom made holsters, there are no holsters for 5" GP's and L frames from the usual makers. 4" holsters abound for GP's and L frames. If one had to have a 4" GP 44, shortening the barrel on a 5" half lug would only involve cutting the barrel, recrowning it, and cutting a dovetail slot for the front sight. Of course, Ruger has 4.2" barrel castings for 357's readily available. I suspect boring them to 44 would be easy. Bob!!

I can't understand why they have yet to introduce a 4" either. The 3" is fine, but it should have fixed sights. The 5" Lipsey's half-lug is pretty cool as well, but I'd rather see a 4" barrel for sure.

If Ruger really wants to compete with S&W, they're going to have to do a 44 mag on the GP frame....I have a S&W 69 and it is an all-around awesome gun.

I'd like to see a 4" and would probably part with my 3" to get it.

I'm gonna be cranking out a few holsters for the new 5" guns.

If they were to come out with a full shroud 4"er I just might have to invest in some 44 dies and components.
