4/20

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous here in San Francisco. Warm, blue skies and light breezes off the ocean.

Sadly, I had to cross town from south to north during the day.

You see, 4/20 is the day when everyone who indulges in marijuana with their friends does just that. Especially here in the City, and especially in Golden Gate Park, which extends right out to the beach...
Being on a motorcycle I could smell the reek a mile away.
Having lived here since 1967, I know a little about marijuana, psychedelics and other fun stuff. Generally I don't have a problem with that sort of thing ..if you want to inhale greasy smoke and hold in your lungs in order to get high that's fine by me. Whatever.
Just don't climb into your car with your buds or on your bike, motorcycle or scooter and have a hilarious time cruisin' around. Especially around me.
I get that MaryJ doesn't make you mean or aggressive...
It does, however, make you stupid.
Not a good thing when you're "driving ".
And yes, doing dope while drinking beer really is like pissing in the wind, just like the Freak Brothers said.

I had never heard of this before yesterday. Stank up the whole city more than normal. Why anyone wants to smell like that is beyond me. With all the edibles, I can't understand. Maybe it's a different high? Either way I think it's REALLY rude to make everyone else smell that stuff. It seriously makes me feel sick sometimes. Weed used to not stink so bad..

I thought it started in Ann Arbor, MI, but though much older the "Hash Bash" was on the 1st.

The first Hash Bash, an event now in its 48th year, (2019 article) took place on the University of Michigan Diag in April 1972 — four months after John Lennon and others came to town to attend a freedom rally for imprisoned Ann Arbor poet and pot activist John Sinclair, who was serving a 10-year sentence for possessing two joints.


After Sinclair was freed and Michigan's felony marijuana law declared unconstitutional, the first Hash Bash was held as a new state law with lesser penalties took effect.


The City Council then blazed new trails with a lenient $5 fine for marijuana in May 1972, though not without a fair amount of controversy.

While no one can say for certain, one widely accepted origin traces back to a group of teenagers hanging out after school.

In the early '70s, five students at San Rafael High School in Marin County, California would meet outside of the school after extracurricular activities had ended for the day. The group, eventually called the "Waldos," simply for the fact they met by a wall to do their thing, made their official meeting time 4:20 p.m. and eventually started using 420 as code for smoking.

You guy's are really going to think I am stupid, but last year on 4.20.2023 the indoor range had a sign " If you participated in 4/20 today you could not shoot at this range"

I asked " How does celebrating Hitler's birthday disqualify you from shooting?

We're boring An occasional beer, once a year we Italians make limoncello or alcohol soaked Russian cherries which both last over a year, and a glass of vino with dinner every so often.

If pot or any other drug to get high with were available over the counter like cigs nobody I know is interested in it.

I'm actually a bit militant about folks getting high and riding motorcycles, bicycles or cars even pedestrians walkling NEAR a road while impaired.

That said, I was on my silly fast bike early one morning coming home from a 3rd shift and got delayed in a MADD drunk check. The officer asked why I was out so late (which ruffled my feathers a bit because it was none of his business) and I said I worked a 3rd shift, then he asked if I had been smoking or drinking. I removed my helmet (no organ donor here) looked him in the eye and said while pointing to my bulbous gas tank, "Officer this is one of the fastest motorcycles in the world and a wrong throttle twist will drop me on the ground in zero seconds, I'd have to be pretty F'n stupid to be high dontcha think? Now if you want to BAT me let's get on with it so I can get off the 20 questions and get home". He said move along.

Here in IL the smell of weed seems to be around all of the time. Just waiting to cross a street and a car or pickup goes up and it smells like they are carrying a dead skunk. As a motorcyclist, and a former motorcycle safety instructor, I always told the students to ride with the idea that everyone else is trying to kill them. That is even more true now, and to the degree that I can, I view every other vehicle on the road as a threat. But around here, 4/20 was a cold, gray and miserable day so I was certainly not out on my motorcycle. Yesterday was nicer and I didn't see any obviously loopy drivers on the road while out on my motorcycle ride.

My 1st wife's sister works in a school for disabled children. It's mostly behavioral problems and she said that the kids clothing and book bags stink from pot smoke. When she has met the parents of the kids she said that she sees why they are messed up.

There are some folks (liberals come to mind) that either like to impose their lifestyle upon others, or don't give a crap about anyone or anything other than their next drug high and/or orgasm.
