357 Magnum & Heavy Lead

The negativity around Lil' Gun may be a bit internet folklore. But I have seen a SA revolver (not a Ruger) that showed signs of forcing cone erosion that didn't really have a good reason to be that way. And Lil' Gun was the powder used,, a lot.

And I'm a bit old school. I use a lot of "older" powders like Unique, 2400, 4227 etc that have a long history of good performance. Why change things if they work???
Because 2400 is impossible to get. I have several jugs of powder that are second or third choice and I even have Unique on top of those. There is one brand of revolver that is most often associated with LG erosion. I find that interesting.

While many may find it hard to get 2400 powder,, it's not impossible. I saw a place selling 8 lb jugs just last year. At a bit over $350 a jug,, I felt it was a bit high,, but in the current market place,, about "normal."

As a lifelong handloader,, I always bought enough powder in advance of my shooting needs to assure I wouldn't be caught short. Specifically the ones I prefer to use.

And there are other powders that are close to 2400 and can be used in place of it. AA9 is one often mentioned,, as is Longshot.

I have only tried LG in my 450 Bushmaster so I can't comment on anything negative as it was slow fire in a bolt action.
One powder I found very useful is powerpistol in all my pistol cartridges for excellent accuracy with midrange velocity.
