I have an old model Black Hawk in .357, that I am thinking about selling. It's unaltered 4 5/8 inch barrel. I have had it since the early 80s.I bought it from my step-dad, who didn't shoot much. I have never even bought ammo for it. It is used but barely. If I decide to sell, what kind of price should I ask? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum.
First,, to make sure it's an Old Model,, it has to have the old style action. Those were made prior to 1973. Look at it to see if it has 3 screws in the side of the frame,, vs a NM which has 2 pins. Also,, the hammer must have a flat face & not a "stepped" one to accomidate the safety transfer bar. From your description,, it sounds like that's what you have.
That said,,,, to give an accurate price range,, we'd need more info. Condition, condition, condition are key points,, then figure in the completeness of the package such as box, all papers, wax wrap, brown shipper, etc. Next,, if it has any "odd" markings or anything else to make it "different" than other guns. Posting the serial number or part of it can help,,(123XX or 30-123XX.)
More info,, better help!

Thomas.

What I do to determine going market rates is going to the auction sites such as GunsAmerica and GunBroker. Between these two, and others, you should find dozens of similar arms. I'm sure you will have other chime in with what are the "particulars" of your gun, but once you determine all that I think the auction houses are a great resource. Remember, "book" value and going street value are more times than not, different animals.

It is an old model. I have a few of both old and new. No box or papers. Serial is 30-685**. Really no wear to speak of. Been a safe queen most of it's life. I only have my phone handy, so pics won't be great.

Ok,, the condition looks very good. No turn line that I can see,, and it APPEARS to have a bit of a plum coloring. W/o the box or papers,, around here,, about $375.

About $400-$450 around here too. For a spotless OM with no conversion as it appears to be, it might bring $500.

Yep,
When ya think about how old this very nice gun is it should be worth more than it will bring.
Should be worth $1000 1500. Look at what a same year Colt brings.
What a shame it will only bring around $375-$400 at best.

Well, Jim, if you really think this nice Blackhawk is "worth" $1200 I'll bet thomasblack will accept your check . . .

;) ;) ;)
I here ya Ale.
The second gen Colts went for about $30-$40 more than a Ruger in the late 50s-60s. So they should only be worth the same now.
Well what happened to the value of a Ruger?????? IT IS A hell of a lot better gun. A POS Colt will bring more than most Very nice Rugers will. Why???????
That was my point.
In 1967 I could have bought a Colt SAA for about $10-20 more than I paid for my Ruger. Well I wanted adj. sight modern gun. Which one do ya think is worth awhole lot more now??
Yep I sure am glad I decided to collect Rugers and Marlins. Rather than Colts and Winchesters when they were CHEAP.
Just call me STUPID.
Jim
Just looked at my 1970 Shooters Bible Ruger Super (top of the line)$125
Colt SAA $175 New Frontier $210 Ruger Single-Sixs and Scouts the same price.
Ya think there is $50 diff. in price now?? No Justice

I'll be stupid wit'cha. I can recall passing up old Colt SAA's for under $100. Granted, they weren't pristine, just working guns, but still . . .

And I think of all those NEW three-screw Rugers I could have bought for under $100 each . . .

Ouch.

I'll add one thought.

Back when I wan't buying those $100 guns, it was because I didn't HAVE $100 to spend on guns.

Makes a difference.

:?
Exactly. Otherwise, I'd be sitting on a truckload of Flattops, OM's and P-64 M70's!
