A friend just got a new SP 101 in 327. Shoots the 327 ammo with no problems but 12 rounds of 32 mag Fed. factory ammo resulted in 2 split cases. Splitting is near the case mouth for 1/2" or less lenghtwise. The 32 mag ammo shoots fine in 2 different 32 mag Rugers. Nothing visible in the chambers and not sure the splits came from the same chambers or not. Any ideas?

I didn,t know 32 MAG went into a 357 I thought it was 38 SPL :?:
He is stating .327 not .357...The reason I ask is I had a Ruger 32 Mag. about 20 years ago..Got some federal 32 S&W long...16 out of 50 split
out of the box. Never did figure that out. :?

I didn't see the sticky - thanks for the heads-up. Seems to be several issues with these guns. Still seems odd the 327 seems ok while the 32 mag is splitting cases. Thanks guys !

There are no issues with the 327 current production guns. That 32 mag split case sounds like an ammo issue. But if you get it again from another lot, I'd send it in to have it checked out.

Yeah, it's an ammo prob. My shooting buddy has a 327 SP101 just like mine, and the box of Federal 32 H&R mag he bought for it split almost every case! Some of them showed splitting even before they were fired!!
He wrote Federal, and they never even responded.
His gun has not done that with ANY other ammo he has shot in it. From 32 'longs', right up to the 327 hot stuff.
It's just the ammo. But good luck getting Fed to admit it.

(Note: I had a problem with some Federal 22 'lightning' ammo, and when I emailed them about it, they responded in a couple of days, and wound up sending me 4 boxes to cover the TWO boxes that somehow disappeared from the brick I had bought. So they do respond in some cases....)

This is confusing; but from the rest of the thread I think you mean .32 H&R mag is splitting,
I had an issue with several .32 S&W long splitting in a SP 101 .327 mag. Sent the ammo back to Remington, it was bad cases, they said the cases got scratched on the inside during the case production. If you can try a different lot of .32 H&R mag.
In any case it should not hurt your gun except possibly make extraction sticky.
