A Buddy of mine showed me a 308 He had bought. Older gentleman threw in 200 rds ammo, some factory and some He had reloaded. About 1/2 reloads were headstamped 30-06. We shot a few and they shot ok. Would you just trim the necks waay back, run through a 308 die then trim to length? Seems like a lota trouble especially when 308 brass is cheaper and easier to come by

Back 'in the old days' we did lots of stuff that wasn't particularly logical. Given that 30/06 brass was common to the point of being virtually worthless and .308 was difficult to find and cost $$, no surprise some went to this much effort. Fast forward a couple decades and .308 was nearly worthless, but .243 was difficult to find and cost $$, we were going through similar contortions to form .308 into 243.

Sure it can and has been done. Maybe GI brass? was free. Yep, too much time and trouble for me. I will be making .338 win mag brass into .358 Norma mag in the near future only because Norma quit making them a few years ago. That now old custom FN Mauser has far more life in it to rechamber or rebarrel yet.. I found a source that would make .358 Norma brass for about 350 bucks for 50 rounds. I will pass on that.
