I have shot this load before in my Henry 44 mag carbine with 17 inch barrel ....

300 gr. Missouri Bullet Co. cast Hammer with HiTec coating actual bullet weight 296 gr. Loaded with 11 gr. of Alliant 2400 powder in a Starline .44 Special case giving a 1.585 COL. Measured FPS was 1220 FPS. Would like to know where this might be in pressure level for 44 Magnum for rifle use. Same bullet in 44 Mag brass gives a 1.710 COL. In my 6 inch Anaconda the same bullet in 44 Mag case at 1.710 loaded with 15 gr. of 2400 gave 1157 FPS.

Seems to me that 11 grains of 2400 in a Mag case is really low.

According to Alliant, they recommend a max of 19 grains (-10% to start, and work up from there) for a 300 grain Speer Jacketed bullet using 2400.

Lyman's 51st edition recommends 14 to 15.7 grains of 2400 for a 300 grain cast Linotype alloy.

I think 11 grains of 2400 in a magnum case would give you a squib.

It wouldn't be a squib. It would be about a 44special level comfortable range load. Not everyone is a recoil junkie at least that's what I hear.

I'm not sure. That's way under (22%) even the listed starting load for a 300 cast bullet in the 44 Mag. I've never used 2400, but I have had erratic issues with some powders when dropping that far below starting loads.

Neither Alliant or Lyman have 300 grain lead load data for a 300 grain cast bullet for the 44 special. But, the Lyman shows 10.5 to 12.3 grains for a 255 grain lead bullet in 44 special, so I'd wager that 11 grains with the 300 grain cast lead is over SAAMI specs for pressure in the 44 special. Not that it really means much when used with modern firearms in good condition (like the Ruger only loads).

If it clears the barrel even at low speed I wouldn't consider it a squib. Manually operated firearms are the most likely to suffer from a squib when a person fires a round when there is a bullet lodged in the barrel.

Yes this was intended as a mid level 44 Mag load in a Special case for a COL that would chamber in my 1873 Uberti 44 Mag lever rifle.
Shot some yesterday and they clocked at 1120 FPS which is fine. I could bump it up a bit but did not have load data for it.....being safe!

Shot well from 25- 45 yds. and bore was clean. Shots on Glow Shot target.

Since this is not a standard 44 Spl load it is unlikely to have been pressure-tested. Lymans Second Edition of their Pistol & Revolver Handbook lists Lyman design 429650 (300 gr) with a starting load of 14.0 gr of 2400 at 24,500 CUP, and the maximum load for the same bullet is 16.5 gr, and 36,800 CUP. There is no direct correlation between your Spl load and the magnum data. Being Lyman data, this would have been tested in a four inch universal receiver pressure gun.

Unless you are pushing the absolute maximum of the envelope chamber pressures are kinda irrelevant. There is more than enough available data to cross-reference and get a solid ballpark guestimation. This sounds like a nice subsonic load that still has some thump.
Of course any time you are working UP a load observe everything for anything getting amiss. Even if you can't find data for your exact creation you can use other data for the projectile and powder to figure out where you are. When I started loading 450 Bushmaster there wasn't much available data. After searching a bit I discovered that 460S&W was very similar. Similar powders and projectiles and fully developed data.
