a 30 carbine shoots a .308 caliber bullet. , the 327 shoots a ~.312 bullet. I'm guessing the barrel would have to be replaced.

Best i can tell the 30 carbine case is .356" at it's widest (tapered cartridge), meaning the chambers are at least that wide. The .327 case diameter is .337.

this makes me think that the the cylinder would not be able to be used for the conversion either. It's already chambered oversize for the 327 cartridge

So it looks to me as though you'd need to re-barrel and have a custom cylinder built.

I could be wrong and would be happy if i was.

I am actually in the process of building a 327 blackhawk. I started with a 357 new model and have found the cylinder blank but just need to get caught up and find the barrel blank and machine it. Steve

Check out this thread about a 30 carbine to 32-20 conversion.

32-20, 32mag, 327fed = .312 dia.

30 carbine = .308 dia.

I am curious as well. :D :D I bet it's a tight squeeze for those bullets. :D :D

Well if you shoot lead it is no problem. I have shot many 32 H&R out of my old model 30.
The lead 30s that I have are .310-.311 so how close do we need to get?????? :D

I've heard of that being done more than once. Do you think the 30 carbine could chamber and shoot the 327 mag? I'm guessing the case might split as there has been some reports of problems like that even with the correct cylinder. Just curious. :D

Jimbo,
I don't know. It would probably split the case. The 32-20 will fire form to the carbine. Maybe someone will try and let us know what happens.
Since the 30 is built on the same frame as the 44 & 45 I don't think you can hurt the gun. Lot of steel there.
