Is this about as good as it gets?

Very nice. A straight tube scope looks best on that rifle, a large objective lens would just mess up the classic lines.

bushmaster1313, That's nice. For me, however, I'll add a couple of tweaks...

First, add a cut-down buttstock from fellow forum members. Next, add an Alex Henry forearm and install a sling stud to it. Now, add extended scope rings and a 2.5-8 power Leupold (again from a fellow forum member). Finally, give the completed rifle to your daughter (10 years old) and participate in her first deer hunt... successful deer hunt.

For me, that is as good as it gets...

PS: She canned the deer and entered a jar of it (and a picture of her and the deer) in the County Fair and won a purple ribbon. Next month, she will take it to the State Fair.
