I posted this over on RFC too, so don't be offended if you read it before.
My 2245 Blued Hunter 5.5" bbl - purchased last September.
Previously I put in the "exact edge" extractor.
This morning I did the rest of the surgery. Got the VQRTSN trigger in, adjusted the take-up and over travel. Got the Sam Lam hammer bushing in. (This eliminates the mag safety, but makes seating the mag/removing the mag/and disassembly much easier) Put in the Volquartsen sear. Wow what a difference! I have a 1968 Standard that the Ruger factory did a trigger job on in the early 80's that isn't any better than this.
Went to the range - found out I'd put everything back together correctly. Sweet! Popped off 90 rounds fairly rapidly (as fast as I could re-align the sights) at 10 meters/33 feet. Best group (Standing, two hands, rear "V" and front Hi-Viz) had 6 of 10 shots hitting the 1 1/8" dot I had stuck on the target. This is REALLY good for me, though some of you with younger eyes (I'll be 63 in April) and steadier hands could do the same thing at 25 yards.
For all the guns I've had, I've never before gone past the normal disassembly the factory recommends for cleaning. I'd like to thank both the little book I got from Volquartsen and most importantly the procedures at guntalk! Thank you!
