A team of shooters hit a steel target at 7,744 yards in the Wyoming desert, besting the previous world record shot by several hundred yards.

The bullet is going down range and it has to land somewhere. Remember a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

Years ago, my ex-wife and I were out in the Mojave shooting tin cans. I set one pretty far out (don't know exactly). I was plinking with my 300 Win Mag and fired off a shot at the tin can. It didn't move but I felt I probably hit it. We walked on out and it was a clean miss. Lying next to it was a lizard (desert iguana, I think) shot through the neck. I picked it up and said "Damn, I was sure it was a clean head shot. Musta been a little low" My ex-wife just stood there with her mouth open!

I once hit a trash can lid @ 500 with a 22 mag==walked it in using dirt puffs. ONCE!!

As long as the target is stationary, it's a great way to line it up.

On a calm day anything is possible. Even a 1000 yards with a 9mm revolver.

That's expensive plinking, I never saw them, ever below $2/round.
