Just won this auction from my local pawnshop. What do you think for $236 OTD. I have really been looking for this particular model and passed up 2 nice ones at cabelas but they had the 512 bull barrel for $220. I cant wait to pick it up and see how it shoots. Thanks Rick

Nice pistol and a good price, what's not to like? :D

I do like my own quite a bit.

It does look like your front sight blade has been modified.
Just hoping it shoots to point of aim for you.

I noticed that too. Here's what it originally looked like before someone modified it.

It is a little hard to see with the dark contrasting background but the target front sight is a real ripper. Perhaps someone modifed the OP's front sight to use it in a holster.

Just checked out the ruger parts booklet and they made different front sights for the 22/45 and the MKII. Its kinda weird why they would do that as I see the only difference being for holster use but I think I like it compared to the other hook style. I shot the pistol and it was on aim and shot good except for some jamming but I have some parts back at ruger right know for replacement.

I have that same gun and am thinking about modding the front sight to accept a bit of optic fiber.
How does one remove it for drilling?
Seems to just have a pin holding it on.
I would also like to drill it for mounting a rail too, it's an amazingly precise shooting pistol.

I believe the pin is all that holds it in. I've seen a fiber optic sight designed for the 678 that might fit with modifications for height.

IMHO I would not modify a 514 because they are hard to come by and there are a lot of other commonly available models out there, but it's your gun. You could also get a replacement sight to modify and save the original if you ever wanted to return the gun to original condition.

What condition is the gun in? I just got a KMK514 that's definitely not collector grade, so the sights are going (I hate the stock sights). If it's not NIB I say modify away.

I've shot a couple bricks of ammo through it but it looks brand new.
I bought it back in the early 90,s for target shooting.
The rear sight is the adjustable type and it's pretty darn accurate.
I shoot at rifle bells and can play tunes on them.
The bells are all different lengths of heavy walled pipe hanging in the distance.
Maybe I'll not mod this one then since it has all the original stuff it came with.
Box, lock manual etc.
I'll pick up one of the fluted hunters at the next gun show.

Amazing price. I paid considerably more for mine.

That was posted 2008.
If I remember yours was in almost NIB w/box and paper, so it should be more.

Hmm, I'd never noticed that before...doesn't surprise me though as I've never read every version of their instruction manuals...there's bound to be something different in every one.
Can you post a scan of where those different blades are offered in the instruction manual and the code date on the manual?
Thanks!

Chet, the different part# are on the Ruger website in the downloadable manuals..It clearly shows the different front sight blades in the picture between the 22/45 and the MKII...Basically the difference is adding a letter P to the part #..
22/45 blade is AP01501
MKII blade is A01501
on page 38 and 39 of this link :D

OK. I'm with you. I thought the actual parts manual that came with your gun listed different front sight blade availability for your 5-1/4" 22/45. I understand Ruger offers different blades for their different models.

I stumbled across 2 of these for sale and thought I would share.
