We tend not to be as loud and overbearing as the 10/22 and SA crowd, so you don't notice us as much. Plus, there are so few No. Ones out there relative to other Rugers that we don't want to call too much attention to them and lessen our probabilities of snatching up the good ones.

I just picked up a very early 130-00xx 30-06 "B" with really nice wood for a tad over $700 and another 257 Roberts (Improved) for a tad or $600.

Really great #1s are still out there and available if you look.

I have a few more Niches covered than 308longdistance

I'm sure there are more and certainly duplicates of many calibers and configurations predicated on serial number.

Most of the guys from the #1 Site are here and if it isn't known or at least subject to an educated guess, you aren't going to find the answer elsewhere.

I hear ya. Between the Rugers, Winchesters and Remingtons, not to mention the hand guns, well, there just isn't enough time.

Mrs McKnights baby boy buys them all.

To be honest other than rarity neither trips my trigger.

The VAST majority of my shooting at THINGS are varmints and that can pretty well be done with stuff below 25 caliber or so that doesn't kick the crap out of you.

Here, the Great Basin, far west the vast majority of big game hunting is deer/caribou/antelope/goat and sheep sized critters. So 200 - 300 pounds maximum, it doesn't take a really big caliber to kill stiff in that class. The vast majprity of big game I've killed in the last 50+ years has been with a 257 Roberts of some ilk.

I do or at least used to hunt elk a lot more than I do now. If I draw a tag I'll still chase the occassional moose or big bear but if the 300 Win Mag, 30-338, 7mm STW or 338 Win Mag won't kill it, I had better just leave it alone.

I apparently worked for the wrong sheriff because to date I haven't been able to afford that trip to Autralia to shoot water buffalo.

Besides, guys with lots deeper pockets than me always seem to want those 300 H&Hs more than I do. ;-)

A guy can't have 6 #1s in 257 Roberts AND a bunch of 300s :)
I think there is some immutable rule about that.

luvmyruger,

If you need a little push, you need to look up "Ruger1nut", he is a member of this forum and from NY, Finger Lakes region I think. I've seen some very nice offerings from him in the classified section.

Fact is, when you see the right one, you will buy it.

Ruger #1 accumulators -- shooters and collectors-- cover the gamut.

I basically have deer rifles and bigger bores but none of the really big bores. They are rifles I shoot and hunt with. Many of mine are custom guns -- calibers Ruger does not make and I want. And most opf mine are Bs, my fovorite model. All the heavier kickers have after-market recoil pads and all have three lb triggers. Almost all wear Leupold galss -- mainly ^X and VX II 2-7.

I own far fewer than Picket Pin but I'l list them now from my mental inventory. I have not done that in a long time and they tend to proliferate.

Small bores.

.22 Hornet B
204 Ruger B SS
6mm Rem B
22-250 B
22-250 V barreled action (project)

Mid range bores 25- 30

257 Roberts B
.25-06 B
6.5 Swede custom #3 (A-type, restocked, schnabel, no AH foreend tip)
7mm BR custom Swede #3 (A-type, restocked, schnabel, no AH foreend tip)
7mm-08 B SS
7mm-08 A
7x57 B
7X57 AB
7x57 RSI
280 B
280 AI ( rechambered 1A 7x57)
7mm REM V
7mm REM B
7mm REM B (barreled action for project)
7mm STW SS
.300 Rem Mag S
.300 H&H B (rechanbered .30-06)

Bigger bores to .45-70

.338 Federal B (rebored and rechambered)
.338-06 B (rebored and rechambered)
.35 Whelen A SS
9.3 x 62 B ( custom restocked and rebored.)
.375 H&H T
.405 Winchester B
.45-70 T (Tiger maple stock.)

Note that I do not have the ever present .270 and ,30-06. Why? Damned if I know. I usualy bypass them if the wood isn't very, very, nice.

Bet ya can't buy just one! :D Consider yourself pushed. Send me a PM or e-mail if I can help in any way or if you just want to visit and look at, or shoot a few Number Ones.

Traveling at the moment so best I can come up with for a few pic's. first is a early pair of 45-70's
not sure what the other one's are but it clearly show you why we seek out these great rifles.

I bow to the masters of this forum. They have individually and collectively amassed great knowledge of these rifles.
Most share what they have learned willingly and occasionally even share a great rifle and sell it to me or another addict.

Like a good fisherman though, I suppose there is always that one or two great trout holes that are just to good to share. They show you the creel when they return but never quite the map or trail head.

My hat is off to them for all they have done for me.

Wunbe you have been holding out on me!!!! . Just got back last week from Reston last week, but unfortunately time did not permit me to look you up. I will be back in the area soon I hope (more work)

My Ruger single shots include #3's as well. While my "accumulation" is considerably less than others on this forum. They are a varied........

#1's
1-H 405 Win.
1-AB 7x57
K1-A 35 Whelen
S26M 4 digit 7mm Rem Mag

#3's
223 Rem
375 Win
30-40 Krag

These are all I have, modest yes, but I enjoy and shoot everyone. These are my primary hunting tools and come hunting season, each has it's niche. :)

I've posted this one before, but it has become my No 1 favorite... .30-06 Centennial, Circassian walnut. 6X Leupold in low rings. An awesome rifle.

Dave,

Indeed, next time you expect to be in town, call me and we will lift a few libations and tell a few lies. My phone number is 703 787 3544. Might even bring a few of the custom guns for a show and tell. (My picts are only a miserable imatation of the real thing.)

Bob,
That is one beautiful No.1! I don't often give away my secrets, but the way to immediately tell the Circassian stocked .30-06 Anniversary models is that the wood is standard checkered; the forearm checkering does not wrap around and the butt checkering has the standard pattern, rather than the slighly enhanced pattern. There has been one on GB for some time now, not selling. While not noted in the description, it is a "Used Firearm" and came from the same group as Bob's- and the one Bob helped me get. There is a story here, but I will not make it public. PM Bob or myself if you are serious for one of these and we can fill you in.

I've got a few but mixed #1s and #3s.

My first was a 1H in .375 Holland and Holland.
Then I found my Number 3 in .22 Hornet.
Then I bought my #3 45-70 from a friend who now wants it back(maybe, he can't decide).
My latest is a 1B in 30-06.

I think I want a 1A in 30-06 and a 1RSI in 7x57 next. we'll see. :D

So yes, find one and buy it. You will not regret it.
