Just a few clarifications.

1. It depends on what 4 digit SN is on that .41 as to whether there would be a Hawkeye and Deerstalker with the same number since neither of those guns made it into 5 digits (Hawkeye being discontinued around 3300 and Deerstalker being renamed around 3900).

2. Yes, not a rumor that the .45 started shipping in December 1970. I have a couple of 1970 guns, they are not the lowest numbers since those were subscription guns that shipped later. The 1970 .45s were in the low/mid 3 digit range (45-00xxx) - mine are 2xx and 4xx. And the black eagle medallions continued on into 1971, switching over to the glossy silver in about July of that year.

Dad had 45-00916 that shipped December 1970.

That's cool. The range may be broader than I thought. I have 45-0051x coming soon, so it will be interesting to see when it shipped. I had/sold 45-0059x that was from 1971. I checked sold records and found that I had 45-0032x and it was a 1970 gun. And I have another 1970 gun that I didn't remember because it is still on my dealer books and it is 45-0039x.

I have 2 & 3 digit 1971 guns 3x, another 3x, sold 5x, 10x, 15x. So those were likely subscription guns.

Been reading up on my Ruger history and can follow more of what I am learning. Also got my Ruger letter back!

Serial # 5XXX
Produced/ shipped Aug 1966
Model BKH-41
.41 Magnum
Shipped to Faber Bros./Chicago

I also see the grip frame is marked XR3-RED.
I googled Faber Bros. And they were a sporting goods store in downtown Chicago.
Working on the parts to return to "as shipped".
Thanks for your help!!
